I don't give lip service. I DO help the poor. Don't generalize.

there are some people who give more them lip service - i regularly donate food to the local food bank. i have a food allowance i get (i am a studnet) i can use it to also buy prepackaged & caned food - at the end of the semester i take all the money i have left and buy what ever i can and donate it to the food bank -

once a year my local food store does a "can-can" sale where they sell all their canned food off at deep discounts - i always get an extra case of veggies for the food bank & i get 150 cans of cat food ($10 worth) of cat food for the Humane Society where i adopted my cat 15 years ago -

also when i do holiday shopping for my family i always get free stuff for spending a certain amount (free ham or turkey) i also donate those - and when i do not only do i donate the ham or turkey i donate a bag of poatoes, sweet potatoes, stuffing, vegatables, gravy, muffin mix, cake or pie mix, butter, oil, eggs, celery, onions, milk & what ever ingredients are needed to make a complete dinner - i might not be able to help every day of the year - but when i can help i do.

PS i am not christian - it does not have anything to do with religion - it has to do with being a good person!!

Ask the Hurricane Katrina survivors about the church assistance they have had (for free), Ask the Tsunami survivors about the church assistance they have received. Ask the town of Jalapa, Nicaragua about church assistance. My daughters have gone to other parts of the United States every summer for many years to build, repair, restore, and renovate homes, community centers, churches. So don't ask why most people give lip service - some of us just don't crow about it because the Lord teaches us to do our service quietly and without thought of glory for ourselves.

Now that's an area you can't criticize Christians for, as they do allot of much needed work helping the needy. As do many other groups. I'm not a Christian, but you would have to be a complete ignoramus to be critical of Christians who suggest people help out the poor,.

I and my wife do not give lip service to helping the poor, but just in case you mean 'those that give to their church, which gives it to their church organization, who gives it to the poor' then it is just a salve for their conscience's, because they are not doing what the scriptures tell them to do.

They do not have money to spare because their Sunday outfits - hats, shoes, purse, dress, suit etc. are much to expensive.

The pastor won't notice them or their pew-mate would be appalled if they're not dressed to the nines.

As soon as they have enough clothing or the latest vehicle I'm sure they will give to the poor.

because religions are fake, the people go to church just to say, "oh I'm a good person" "Jesus loves me" "Jesus forgived my sins so i can sin again" and blah blah blah
