Buy a leash and harness, if your cat must go outdoors. Otherwise, keep the cat in a cleanable room (such as the bathroom or any other room w/o carpet or furniture), put a litter box in there, and just clean up if the cat decides not to use the litter box.

You have several choices here.

1-get a cat sitter. You've already stated you don't trust anyone with your pet, so that's already ruled out.

2-put your cat in a boarding kennel while you're out. That is a little expensive usually though.

3-get or borrow a pet carrier. Also borrow or buy a pet "crate" One big enough for a littler box. You can take your pet with you then. Your cat can stay in the wire crate while you're there. Give it a place to lay, some toys, food water and a small litter box. About all cats know what to do with a litter box. So that shouldn't be a problem.

Listen to your Mum, and bring your cat with you to your grandad's. From now till your Mum's operation, toilet train your cat to use the litter box. Cats are extremely intelligent creatures and learn very fast.
Go get her a litter box with enough litter to last her through til she can go home again. When you see her wanting to go out to use the toilet, carry her to the litter box, and wait for her to use it. If she doesn't, try sprinkling a few drops of her urine in the litter so she knows the box is for her to use as a toilet. Keep bringing her to the litter box and leave her there whenever you see she wants to go outside to do her toileting. Give lots of praise, cuddles, and treats when she does it right (in the litter box). She'll be using her litter box in no time, and you can then bring her along to your grandad's when you go. It's not safe to leave it alone in the house when there's no one around to take care of it, and you don't trust anyone else to take care of her for the time being.
Good luck.

You could try to just keep him in one small room of your grandads house. Put in a litter box and it will probably use it. It may meow and howl, but at least it will be safe, and you can bring it out, or go in to pet it to give it some attention.

You can also talk to your local animal shelter to see of they keep pets, or a kennel, but that's costly.
