Diet , excises, and see the Dr. again. I would try and get some good food in your Dad and vitamins. Get a book on nutrition. Like healing with vitamins. This plus another visit to the doctor to adjust his meds might be the key. It is a chemical imbalance so it can take awhile. Seems alot of people are on pills for depression! What does that say about our world? It is not just your Dad. There is not to much you can do past that. You can't be in his head to help him. Just try and understand as best you can what he is going through.

Sometimes. There are chemical reactions in the brain to antidepressants that help the mood change. However, it is a fact that drug therapy alone is not enough to always cure it. Medication in conjunction with psychiatric therapy with a doctor is the best way to handle depression. Also, a healthy lifestyle in eating, exercise, and getting enough rest has an affect, too.

Often, a person with depression may have to try more than one medication to help the depression. For people who either do not choose to take anti-depressants, exercise is a very good natural anti-depressant.
Physical exertion causes the release of "endorphins". Endorphins are chemicals produced by the body that elevate mood and can reduce the symptoms of anxiety. Vigorous exercise will help a person's quality of sleep, because of the physical fatigue promoting sleep.
Other non-medical treatment of depression - such as electroshock therapy - are better used for people whose resistant depression is potentially life-threatening.
One of my favorite prescriptions for helping depression is to adopt a dog! They are good company, excellent work-out partners, and for many people, the love they get from the dog is the best medicine of all!

there are many medications if the ones he is taking are not working for hi speak to his dr 0 they may need to adjust the doasge or the medication - remember most medicine take 6-8 weeks from the start date before they work completely -

depression can be a chemical imbalance - if his is caused by an imbalance then he cannot be cured without a medcation to balance those chemicals - finding the right medication can take time there are many medications and it is trial and error to find the perfect match

support your father as best you can - you can also join a therapy group for family - this may help you better understand your fathers condition - also make sure he is regularly going to therapy sessions with a therapist he likes

I had to hit rock bottom, heart failure, alcoholism the whole nine yards before snapping out of it when given no time left to live in hospital. Some people have to hit the skids. All you can do is try and make him realise that you need him, that's what got me, my five year old asking where I was going and could I come back and visit. Ask him to try different meds. It takes luck too, whatever happens it's in no way your fault. Hang in there life's better when you survive the worst, (that cures depression), you can even drink again, sensibly. Good luck.

well it prob can be done. but it depends on what is causing the depression. it could be a chemical imbalance or something subconscious that someone needs to face before they can get over it.
in the case of a chemical imbalance meds are probably the only way .

Yes, there is a way to get over depression without meds, but it is quite hard. If you do some researching, changes in lifestyle, and diet, and exercises can help. It's hard, but possible.

If your Dad is really depressed show him this webpage and your question and he will see how much his child loves him, that is the only thing that matters in life, the love of another person. It looks to me as if he has that in you. Pills dont help people, people help people.
