Hey,
Is the kitty's food bowl near the litter? If so move the litterbox far away from the litterbox. Cats don't like to use the box near their foodbowl.
Also it could be that your kitty has some pain while pooping and now associates the litterbox with this pain avoid it. This could definitely be the case if he still pees into the box without problems. Take your kitty to the vet to get checked out.
This is how you get the kitty to use the box again: For the next few days to weeks you will need restrict where in your house your kitty can go. This isn't a mean thing to do at all. Get your kitty comfortable in a spare room or the bathroom. Put the litterbox in there, a comfy pillow or blanket, his food and toys. The idea is to get him used to using the litterbox again. Once he poops into it consistently you can start expanding the area of the house he's allowed in. Make sure to clean the box out once or twice a day so that there is a clean place for him to go. Play with your kitty lots still but put him in the room for the majority of the day (especially if you aren't home).
I don't know how many kitties you have but if you have more than one you need to get a litterbox for each of them PLUS a spare. It's important that cats have lots of choice that way.
Since you live in the US you could buy a product called Feliway that might help. Ask your vet about it.
I am sure your kitty will be fine. Good luck.

My sister's cat was doing this same thing. There is a pheremone spray that you can spray on the spot that will keep the cat from pooping there. They also make a plug in that you can put by the litter box that attracts the cat towards the litter box. You can buy these products from the vets office without bringing in the cat.

there is a spray out called urine gone I haven't tried it yet so I don't know how effective it is but It is Worth shot. Plus when I have had problems with a cat using the litter box I put one in the spot where they like to go till they get used to it again. And I also want to point out that sometimes when a cat doesn't want to use a litter box they may be sick. You may want to take it to the vet.

i do no longer understand the place you preserve your clutter container yet I do have 2 suggestions. One is circulate the clutter container to the areas he is going in till he's a sprint older and has discovered to apply it each and all of the time. the 2nd could be to purpose a different form clutter. There are countless on the industry. With a sprint staying power he will in all threat out strengthen this. reliable luck.

Usually cats go outside of the box if they are sick or the box is not clean. if your box is clean, then take your kitten to the vet.

Take care,
Troy
