Eddie was neutered one week ago. Seems to be healing well; however ,the last 2 days he is having difficulty keeping food down> He eats a lot of grass. I have heard hamburger and rice mixture may help. Anyone have an answer before I call my vet? Thanks.

You really should call the vet first. He could have eaten something that could be causing a blockage. Once the vet checks him out, then you will know what is the cause. He is eating the grass because he is trying to clean out whatever is in his stomach. By the way, Science Diet is not a high quality food, try in the future switching him to a better one such as Merrick, AvoDerm, Chicken soup for the dogs soul, Solid Gold, California Natural or Wellness. These are sold in high quality pet stores, not supermarkets or the big box pet stores.

The grass your dog is eating is helping Eddie to regergitate. My dog and cats do this when they have furballs or aren't feeling well. Try adding the ground hamburger to his food to get him to eat something / see if he is interested or not. Definately take him to the vet to find out the underlying cause.

Well, stop him from eating grass first. Second why not feed a premium quality food? Corn/wheat and byproducts do not belong in dog food. Some of the best brands out there are California Natural, Solid Gold, Inova and Merrick.

It is normal for dogs to eat grass and regurgitate occasionally. Any changes in thier diet or water source can cause this also. The heat too. Though you should call and talk to your vet since he did neuter him recently.
Oh, and the fireworks can stress most dogs out big time. Be with him tonight.

When I was about 11 years old a friend of my Moms had to go into an old folks home and couldn't keep her 3 year old Chihuahua so my Mom took her...We were very poor... The lady that had her before had literally cooked her meals 2-3 times a day with people food...All we could afford for her was dry kibble...She refused to eat... My Mom made a rule, no people food... After about 2 weeks of her barely eating, she finally figured out that she either ate the kibble, or starved...Yes, she got thin, but she didn't starve... She lived to the ripe old age of 18, she was a good kid.. :-)

Your vet should have some presciption Hill's Science food. You should bring him in anyways just to be safe (since there's a surgical procedure involved). He might prescribe a diet of the I/D canned food for a while. It's a lot gentler on digestive systems and replenishes what dogs lose through vomiting.

When I was young, my mother told me that when dog's eat grass, they either have worms (I doubt this is your problem) or their stomach is just upset. There could be a bigger issue here, but I believe that if you let him (and his body) work through this that he'll be fine.
I've had several dog's "fixed" in the past and they all reacted like this. It takes them between 1-3 weeks usually. It depends on how big the dog is, how old it is, how good the surgery went etc...
*shrugs* Hope this helps... :-)

I agree that since he was just surgically altered, your vet should be advised of anything amiss going on with your dog over the next 2 weeks...better safe than sorry.

My dog will eat grass if he is upset of anxious and then always vomits. Stop eating grass = stop vomiting. Works every time.

The hamburger and rice thing is a good idea. Also try deworming your dog.
