Chamomile tea works very well, and is safe for him.
Dump it out of the teabag, and use 1 teaspoon for small breed, up to 1 tablespoon for a large breed. Mix it in a little canned food, such as Mighty Dog, or Cesar's, and give about 30 minutes before he needs to relax. It will keep him happy, but reduce stress. It can be given as needed.
If your grocer doesn't carry chamomlile, you can use 'SleepyTime Tea' as it is the same, but with added herbs. Plain chamomile tastes better to a dog.

Maybe his crying is letting you know that he wants to go out & pee?
If his hind legs are weak, make his bed on the main floor so he needn't climb any stairs & to alleviate any further pain should he try going up the stairs.
Yes, I think you can actually have something done for his cataract. You should consult your Vet about it. But at his age, it's common...Just direct him if you feel that he might be lost & can't see.
Good luck.

He is getting old. I know they do have a cataract surgery they can do but it is very pricey. Ask your veterinarian they can tell you More. If hes crying at night he may not be feeling very well. Dogs this age can get Alzheimer's and he should go to the vet to get checked out.

Yes, I would take to the vet. Remember that either he can not see or see very little. He is feeling sad and sorry. Night time is when dogs are most active but he knows he can be active anymore.
Yes, there are operations to remove the cataract, but remember that he will soon be deaf and looses his smell sense soon.
This happen to my dogs at 18 years of age, they used to sleep all the time..!

My friend's dog did this and it was because the valves in the heart were weak and at night when the dog would lie down the heart put pressure on the lungs or the throat or something. This may explain the weak legs if he is not getting circulation.
You need to take him to the vet. Sorry your doggie is sick.

If it is a big dog sometimes in their old age they can't get comfortable It like when we get older and have arthritis.
Dogs dream just like we do your dog could be having bad dreams! I am serious! I have had dogs all of my life and I have watched my dogs in their sleep cry and make noises during a dream.
If it is the age factor you could talk with your vet and maybe you can get some medicine to help with your dogs joints and muscle pains. Good Luck

Regardless of age, your dog seems to be suffering from separation anxiety; you have 2 choices; go to drsforsterandsmith.com and order some DAP (dog appeasing pheromone) in either spray or plug in form. Your other choice is www.snugglepuppy.com and order a comfort pet that has a heartbeat and warming pad. Both work very well and the comfort pet is the cheaper of your two choices. Good luck and God bless.

im really sorry to say this but saddly your dog is getting old and if you want whats best for him you should put him down so he dosnt have to suffer anymore. if you dont he has to stugle to get up everyday and thats no life for a dog. if you want to comfort him sleep with him one night and keep petting him\her so he feels like someone is there for him i know some people dont think dogs have feelings but they do. So i would do whatever is best for my dog and you should do the same this is your call so make the right dession.
best of wishs,

Take him to a vet as soon as possible. There are a lot of different causes for this. But whatever they are, he's obvious in alot of pain and not able to lead a very happy life.
