Well, they were for a long time, and Jesus put up with them and their stiff-necked ways for hundreds of years. But,the straw that broke the camels back was the stoning of Stephen. They can only be saved now on an individual basis. God still protects them very well, because they are surrounded by enemies that would annihilate them if they could. Israel is a very powerful country, because the United States keeps them supplied with all the good stuff.

As some have said all Christians are God's chosen people.
BUT,
you also have to remember that the nation as a whole rejected God's Son.

They were the choosen people but as the Bible states Jesus came unto his own but they knew him not and they killed him. After the stoning of Stephen and the conversion of Saul(Paul) the message went to all the world Matthew 28:last verse. So now there is a spiritual Israel that follows the Bible as the sole authority of God's word to man. All who accept Jesus Christ become apart of the family and therefore becomes a spiritual Israelite.

Every Jew's quest is for peace on earth. Some of them believe that it's necessary to follow every one of God's 613 commandments. Others do as much as possible anonymously toward that goal on a daily basis.
Shalom!

Jews are just like any other human beings. They also have some crooks, I was in Haifa, Israel once and a woman grabbed my wallet. She passed with her friends, luckily I got my wallet back less cashed. I have been to diifferent parts of the world and I got ripped of in what they called HOLY LAND. What's HOLY about that.

Any religion which claims that a special group of people are the "chosen" people of God is definitely not my religion.

Yes they are to your first question.
It would seem to me that it would be difficult to do everything as G-D wanted as the temple is not there.
