To live his live without reference to God.

As you know most people succumb.

Frank Sinatra's song "I did It My Way" sums it up nicely.

The trouble is, when we think we are doing it "my way", in reality we are doing it "Satan's way". The Bible, Genesis Chapters 2 and 3 show how it happened.

Jesus called Satan "the ruler of this world". So if you live a wordly life, you are doing it "Satan's way".

Jesus said: "Broad is the road that leads to destruction and many follow it. The road to life is narrow and few find it"

So why not resist man's biggest temptation and do it "God's way"? Get off the wrong road and find the narrow way.

Depends upon the man or woman. For some it is fame, for others it is fortune, gambling, drinking, sex or many other things. It really comes down to who the man is.

Jealousy, the mother of all sins that Satan first felt against prophet Adam and the first sin on earth that caused Cain to murder his brother Abel. It causes vanity, etc. For example he won in gambling, I must win too; he has sex, so should I, he became rich by theft, so should I, etc.

Belief. (Not an answer directed towards religion). Just belief in general. It's usually a result of some form of judgment.

For me it was when a women offers herself to me, and I always turn them down because I'm married.
This has happened to me several times over the years, and it's tough to turn down, but I could never look my wife in the eye if I betrayed her. Besides it's only sex!

Vanity

God speakers have a double dose of it, it appears.

It is impossible to be more vain than to believe you speak for God.
