This is a very, very good question.
The primary means of moral navigation we have is the conscience, a mental tool humans are gifted with - a wonderful facet of our cognitive abilities that allows us to discern between good choices and bad choices.
However, the conscience alone is not where you would want to stop. As the guardians of our conscience, we are expected to develop and inform our conscience; it is possible to learn about what is good, and what is not good, and the more we know about what is good and not good, the better formed our conscience is.
Think of it the way the army treats soldiers, who are often subject to more moral dilemnas and stresses than most of us will ever know - soldiers are taught the rules of engagement; they are given information about the treatment of prisoners, and the care and handling of civilians. They may have some innate common sense on these matters, but the military does not leave this to chance. Soldiers and their leaders are taught battlefield ethics.
So it is with each of us. Learn the "battlefield ethics" by studying the nature of goodness; the Sermon on the Mount is a good place for a Christian to examine what goodness is, how to find it, and cultivate it in yourself. Studying the lives and ethics of good people is another way to cultivate it. And most of all, awareness of your surroundings is important: if something you do hurts someone, examine that thing, and determine if perhaps you should not do it anymore.
The course of our lives is undetermined. We are capable of good things. And if we do good things, then good things do come to us - not in the sense necessarily of good fortune, but in the sense of the Parable of the Ten Talents - "to everyone who has, more will be given." What good you sow becomes your responsibility, and you will become capable of even greater good.
As to the specific course that takes? I don't know it. You don't know it. And God does not cook the books on it. You have the power to set your course. God will be with you, always - and any good that you do?
Right there, in those things, that is God's will for your life.

iT is not God's will for our lives that we need to look at. We need to know and understand God's will period. If we go against His will then we are not doing his will for our lives.
It is God's will we don't get drunk, and when we do we are going against his will.
The 10 commandments is a good shortened version of God's will for mankind.

I would pray and ask God to direct my mind in the area of need. First, we ask God what is your will? Then we shut our mouths and learn to wait and listen. God has a perfect timing to answer prayers but I believe we must learn to trust God when he doesn't answer when we want him to.
IN choosing our godly mate, I believe that God will lead you in making right decisions. I've dated several ladies that were good christians but they were not the one for me . You will know what God's will is about things like that by spending time alone with the mate and with God.
Other areas and other times, you just have to walk out by faith to see . I just quit my job a year ago to finish college. I was at a dead in job with a mind that was confused. I prayed and ask God what to do and I felt it was ok to step out. So I did. Ihave made all A's with the exception of 1 B. When in high school, I made B's and C's so... It's amazing if you have your prioroties right, you will know what God's will for you is in your life.
Don't worry ,God will allow you to feel uncomfortable about things that are not his will. He will give you assurance when you are pleasing him.
Faith and Trust are two different things. We walk by faith and step out at times like Peter did when he stepped out of the boat that day but there are times when we have to trust God when we have do direction and continue to walk faithfully for him. Hope this has helped.

Read the Gospels on your own. Let no one try to interpret what is written for you. As simple as this my sound, you may be able to find out what God has in mind for you.

I have found that every-time God wants me to do something it goes against my human nature.
It may be something simple as being nice to someone that is actually a jerk.

He wants you to spread the gospel to all people. It will become more clear how he wants you to do that in the near future. Read your Bible and pray in the meantime.

Start by listening to your conscience. Conscience first, before any text or human authority.
