The navy you are going to see a lot more of the world. But they go out for a long deployment. Then they are in shore for some time before they can go out again. When they do go out after a long deployment it is for a couple days or so then they are back.
The Coast guard is a smaller branch. They move up rank faster. They are all ways out guarding he cost. I think they get more action time. Plus since it is small you get recognized easier then in the Navy.
Go talk to both recruiters. Or go to the websites. I thing navy is navy.com I know for sure that the coast guard website is gocoastguard.com

Get into the Airforce. Better pay, better training, less chance of getting killed. You'll also get a better job once you leave the military.
The next choice is the Coast Guard. At least you get to stay at home and have little chance of getting killed.
Then the Navy. For 6 months in a year you will be in a crowded ship and the other 6 will probably be spent in the middle east. Small chance of getting killed, training depends on what you do, and it's a tougher life.
After that is the Army and Marines. High chance of getting killed, tough as hell, and probably a shitty job waiting for you after you get out assuming they let you leave.
The military is like any other business these day. The smarter you are, the better you will land. The dumber you are, the more likly you will be used like a tool.
PS
Unless you plan to go to officer school, you should view the military as training for life after. In other words you DON'T want to join the navy if the best job they offer is a painter or construction. I swear to God, don't join up unless you get a really good job that can be transfered to the civilain world.

I have 3 relatives that went Navy, and they loved it.
The Navy gives good education an good training, esp in electronics.
I am over 50 and been working in large companies and factories most my life.
I have noticed that the Army and Marines seldom generate any managers after their service, only grunts. They may be decent and hard working people, but it is obvious to me that Navy or especially Air Force background does way more for the person after they get out
As for the replies I read about - " Dude- Don't do it, u might git killed, man" etc etc,....That's from fearful immature children who know nothing about the world they live in..
I've been robbed and nearly killed going into a 7-11 one night by some thugs,.
then I almost bout it another time in a car wreck....nothing is guarranteed in this world.
Good Luck

The coast guard does have a good Marine Biologist (or somthing along those lines) program. However, please keep in mind that if you join the Coast Guard you probably will not be able to go directly to your "A-School" from boot camp. In most Coast Guard jobs, you have to work on a ship for several months as a deckhand/cook/seaman before a slot for your school opens up. (At least, that's how it was when I considered joining six years ago).
So, I say go Navy. Choose a good job that you can also use in civilian life, but one that will still allow you to travel.

Excellent Choice and thank you in advance for your service no matter which branch you choose.
Here is the run down:
The Navy is the the "middle of the road" of all the services and the one that offers the most travel and the most liberal promotion opportunities. test scores to get in are middle of the road as well. As far as combat... We just drop those other guys off and hang off the cost until it is time to pick them up!
The Coast Guard is domestic so if travel is part of the plan forget it.
The Army and Marines are ground forces and you will see combat and your chances of getting killed are much higher than the other services and they also require the lowest test scores to get in.
The Air Force has limited travel opportunities and the rate of promotion sucks but require the highest test scores to get in!
