How Many Yards Of Fabric does it take for a 35widthx55length window?

For a simple rod pocket curtain you need two panels at least double the width of your window. Keep in mind that you will need about two inches seam allowance on each side on each panel. Allow about four inches of fabric at the top of each panel for the rod pocket (4)and about three inches at the bottom for the hem.(3) If your rod is placed at the top of your window and you want your curtains to end two inches below the sill (2) then: Add 55+4+3+2=64 inches X 2=128 inches of fabric (minimum) 128 divided by 36 = 3.56 yards or 3 yards and 20 inches or (closest standard fabric measurement) 3 5/8 yards. Unless you're buying VERY expensive fabric I would buy 4 yards to allow for more generous allowances at the top and bottom, raising your rod slightly above your window, etc. Your fabric should be at least 42/44 inches wide to allow for a nice fullness. (36 inch width fabric, after your side seam allowances, will be a little skimpy but will still work!)

Dear Sewer, They don't let you explain in depth on how you want them to look, or if you are making a valance on the top. A fabric that is six feet long or two yards long would cover your area. If you want it fuller, I would buy four yards. Then you can triple the width and make the window look wider by extending the curtain rod farther out on the sides. That is a 45 inch wide fabric. Some material is wider, like 52 inch wide. I think it is all how you want it to look like. Good Luck, it will look great.

4 yds in two two yard panels (easier to have the fabric store cut it for you) Make pockets for the rods, and hem sides. then hem it to approx 6 inches below the window ledge. (This will make very full curtains.)
