I need to ask something about the Marines.?

My step brother is in in Marine training right now. In one of his letters he told be about "the pit" but not in detailed information. Can anyone tell me what "the pit" is and what do you do to get in there?

HAHAHAHA!!!!!

Man, its been a long time since I was in boot camp but the pit brings back memories. It is basically a sand pit where they make you do exercises as punishment. Glad I wasn't in when it was the rose garden.
