Liver has the amazing quality to regenerate itself!!

Many people traumatise and abuse their liver on a regular basis, usually while out drinking alcohol. However, the liver is a remarkable organ since despite this self-inflicted harm it's very resilient and generously forgiving, using its powers of regeneration when necessary.

The liver is the body's production centre. It manufactures proteins that are the building blocks of the body. It also makes bile acids and fats that are needed in the process of digestion and the transport of nutrients. Another role it plays is contributing to maintaining the balance of blood sugar in the body. If this isn't enough responsibility the liver also helps to metabolise many hormones and drugs too.

Be warned, however. Don't be fooled into thinking you can damage your liver time and time again and that it will always repair itself and see you right. There comes a point when the damage becomes irreversible through a process called cirrhosis. This is where the normal structure of the liver is lost and replaced with scar tissue, a process called fibrosis.

Since it isn't possible to know when this time might be, always remember that with alcohol and with most other things in life, moderation is best

Damaged by what - be more specific.

The liver can regenerate, but If it is cirrhosis, than no - the damage can only be halted or slowed.

Hepititus C can be cured with interferon if it is caught in time.

Yes...and no. This depends on what you're talking about damage. As you've seen in the other answers......the liver can regenerate itself.....if it's been damaged.....say by some type of trauma.....but if it's damaged by something else....for example...alcohol or drug induced, then it won't heal itself.......

maybe he had a school fight and the other guy was looking for his liver the entire fight, and with sheer dumb luck managed to hit him in the liver. and now he knows if he`ll be preped to fight very soon ? or..he has or had a disease( or someone close to him) and I'm a dick. the liver can heal itself but that depends on the illness. if you had cyrosis (dunno if I spelled it right), no it can't be cured. source ? the people that that drink a lot at bars.

an amazing thing about the liver is that it can regenerate itself, cut half of it out and it will grow back, it just needs time
