Coaxial cable uses electrical signal to transfer the compressed digital audio or PCM and optical uses a laser. Your DVD and A/V receiver have to change from electrical signal to laser signal. this is call "jitters" or mini data losses. don't hook up the cable that is coolest but the most reliable and accurate.

There is no difference in quality. As long as the signal gets through the cable it will be exactly the same. Optical cable is more expensive. As is typical with all digital transmission, it is either perfect or almost non-existent.

There have been debates on this subject for the longest time. Truthfully you are not going to notice a difference. I personally use Dig coax as often as possible simply because as opposed to optical, the cable can be bent without signal cutout. Other than that, use which ever you like.

optical and coax will perform about the same. Personally I perfer coax and think it has a better base response. But, if you are planning on using a long cable, then optical will be better because coax will lose signal over long lengths.

optical is the best since it uses light hence no distortion and loss. digital coax is not that far honestly the difference is not too noticeable
