I don't think their hearts stop but my cousin and I were having a debate and he said a dog owner told him their hearts stop. I'm trying to prove them wrong.

NO, their hearts aren't actually stopping. They have no control over their heart beating, just like humans have no control over theirs. The heart is an involuntary muscle, meaning it either beats or doesn't. The animal doesn't tell it to go or stop.
