YES be concerned and call your vet. Blood in stool is never good.

If it's red blood, it's probably an anal fissure or a hemmerhoid caused by hard stools. If so she probably strains a lot when she poos.. You may need to adjust her diet. If it's black blood or looks like coffee grounds, we are talking about internal bleeding and you should get her to a vet ASAP. Don't fool around - please - Maltese can live to be 17 or older and it would be a real shame to lose her over something easily treatable.

I would suggest taking her to the vet, or at least calling your vet and talking to them about it.
Is your dog very nervous/afraid of storms? Because if she gets really worked up during thunderstorms (and, of course, if it has stormed either today or yesterday), that might explain the blood in her stool.

yeah you should be concerned.the blood in the stool is not normal he could have been poisoned . Kidney disease/failure, Gastrointestinal disease, Inflammatory bowel disease, this is just to name a few. but I would take him to the vet as soon a possible. older dogs do not get parvo so that is a good thing.
good luck and I hope it works out for you.
