This Mormon guy and his three wives moved in three houses down from me. You should see him flaunting his wives! They are all very pretty and I don't understand what they see in him. He has one older wife, I would say in her early forties and then two younger wives who look to be in their early twenties. It just makes me sick. How can he get away with this in today's society? Have we lost all our morals? I know that he's a Mormon because I see those young missionary guys stopping by their house all the time. You know the ones who always travel in pairs and wear the white shirts and clip-on ties.

What should I do? Who should I report this to? Can he be arrested? I've already warned all the neighbors to watch them and keep their daughters away.

this couldn't be any funnier. i hope this improves your ability to keep an open mind and closed mouth. you have no business gossiping to your neighbors without having full knowledge of the facts. i think the bible says i should smite you.

This is kind of a sticky situation.
On one hand, the law of hte land is only one wife, on the other, there is religious freedom.

All the neighbors by now are aware of the situation, but before you start rumors that will cause undo trouble, this guy is not a kidnapper, he is not a rapist, he is a Mormon - warning your neighbors to 'keep their daughters away' is a knee jerk reaction that is not necessarily the right one.

How do you know this is a polygamist household? Is this just through observation? Did he say something? How do you know?
If you believe this is what is going on - call the authorities and let them investigate. Give the law a chance to do something about it, and if the authorities find nothing - let it go.

If this is a legit question and a real situation, here is my answer:
Why don't you do what Jesus would do and love him as your neighbor. Don't judge. Sounds to me that although you disagree with this guy (which is fine), you have some personal problems inside this has brought up. It also sounds to me like you may not understand the beliefs of this Mormon group. I highly doubt that this man would be 'after' any of the neighborhood girls. This group marries within their group, and does not abduct outside strangers. The LDS are the ones on bikes. They do not practice polygamy.
How is he hurting you (besides your ego or sense of self-security perhaps?) How is he hurting anyone else? Is it just something you don't like or agree with? How much about this family do you REALLY know? Get the facts FIRST. You have rushed to judgement and that could end up hurting a lot of people and embarassing the hell out of yourself.
Report this? I'll ask you this:
Sodomy and oral sex are technically illegal in many states. If you knew of a couple- married or unmarried, gay or straight, who was engaging in these acts, would you call the cops on them or turn them in?
If you truly are a concerned citizen who is not judging these people, then you will have the, um, guts to go over and talk to this family yourself.
And you ask 'how can he get away with this in today's society?'... please... like this is the WORST thing in our society today. You can't live in a glass house, my friend...

Actually since real Mormon's discontinued the practice of having multiple wives over a hundred years ago this guy is not a Mormon even if he claims to be one. The Mormon church would have kicked him out for having more than one wife.
And yes as it is technically against the law you can report it to the police but the only cases of polygamy that have been tried in many years are the ones where one of the wives has been forced to marry against her will.

I would probably befreind him and see what they are all about. I don't know that you would appreciate someone calling the authorities on you because you have something abnormal about your life. If there is incest or something nasty going on, hell yeah, throw the book at them, but I don't know. You are trying to make a moral judgement call on people who are making a lifestyle choice and that is a pretty grey line. Who knows... if you do something they may find out it was you and you may disappear. They do stick up for their own kind, you know. If you do report them and they go to prison, what happens after? Do the twenty year olds see the errors of their ways and go into a normal life? Probably not, those folks are as inundated with that culture as a Jihadist is with their need to kill the infidels. Your best place is to befriend them and moniter them from the inside. If **** goes down that is worse that what you expect, then act, but if you jump too soon, you will be the one out on the limb.

This is hilarious. You had heard some stories about Mormons, and you just assumed his good-looking daughters were his wives. I'm sure the mistake is embarrassing to you, but I've got to remember this as an example of what not to do.

Hey, I've got four pretty daughters that I like to flaunt as well. I wonder how many of my neighbors wondered what my daughters saw in me. Hilarious!

A fairly uneducated question--I suggest you do a little research on the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints because polygamy is very much frowned up on in the modern church. Sects tht do practice such are excommunicated and not affiliated with the Church in Salt Lake, i.e. Warren Jeffs and the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (a misnomer because you're either Mormon or not, they have no 'fundamentalism').

But, to go along with the content of your question, I doubt he's legally married to all three of them; remember that being married in the eyes of your religious authority and in the eyes of the state are two different things. Regardless I suggest a live-and-let-live approach that would certainly include to stop blacklisting an entire family for the rest of the neighborhood. You're all grown-ups, you can handle people's differences.

First, I am a Christian and totally disagree with Mormons and their religion. Polygamy is against the law and you can do something about that. We have freedom of religion guaranteed in our constitution and I thank God for that. You ask a question,"what shall I do?", if you are a Christian, walk the walk, and do what Jesus would do. Welcome them and be kind to them; be a good neighbor! "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven." Matthew 5:16 If you are threatened by people of different faiths, turn inward, repent, and strengthen your own faith in Christ. I will be praying for you. Be encouraged, keep the faith, and spend time with the Lord in prayer and His Word. I hope this helps.

i think you are making a bigger deal out of it than it has to be.....it is called polygamy and if you were unaware over 80000 people in america today practice it.....it doesnt mean they are bad...all the parties involved choose to be there they are not forced in anyway an can leave at anytime if the choose.....the respect each other and have to make sure that what they do isnt and inconvience for the other wife...and the husband has to spend the same amount of time with each wife....so that the can not say that the other wife is being greedy trust me...dont bother them and they wont bother you....they dont mean any harm and they arent after your little girls or anything like that so chill

Hi there,
I just wanted to make it clear that Mormons do not practice polygymy. It is those people who have branched off of our church who believe in multiple wives. It may be that they also have their own missionaries, or perhaps the missionaries you speak of are the husbands of the other two women. My thoughts are this: Do not judge.

Do not be confrontational. This will only build a rift between you and him. Study the laws on polygamy in your state. If it is outlawed and you are sure about your neighbor then report it to the authorities. Do not try to take matters into your own hand unless you have had experience with this situation before.
