I couldn't ask the question exactly as I wanted to. Let me try again:

If you were a doctor and, after your hard work, the patient was restored to health, how would you feel if the patient or the family said 'Priase God! It's a miracle!'?

I'm not baiting anyone, I just wonder if we sometimes forget to give thanks where it is due.

It was God who gave the doctor the knowledge that he needed? Are you sure about that? It wasn't med school?

To answer your added details first: God probably also created medical school :p

I think doctors are these days probably more than used to getting this insult, even if it is sad.

It happens in all professions. When i started working i was a sort of stand-up comedian for children. Even i had, afterwards, people thanking God for a nice afternoon. It's ironic, but managable.
To me, it gets even more sad when people can't even give the credit to themselves. The athlete that trained for years and years to become the 100m olympic champion, thanks God afterwards, not himself, not even his trainer, but God.

I still always wonder how God decides who wins the 100m sprint in 10 seconds, seeing 8 men at the starting line, all praying to God and hoping that God let's one win. It's a miracle that God can even decide in 10 seconds who wins.

God is amazing.

Perhaps by praising God they are praising you as well. They are obviously spiritual people. In their eyes if not for God this would not have been possible and this is a miracle. By being the doctor you were a part of that miracle. If not for God they would not have had you. So I think you were appreciated. I also think they should have personally thanked you.

I am agnostic so I understand why you would feel this way. I am just trying to look at it from both sides.

I would thank both. As God put the right person with the right skills in the right place for you to be healed. And I would thank the doctor for his hard work and training.

If I was this doctor, I would realize that what they said was mostly true as a humble servant of God and that all things I do should be to glorify Him.

I hear you on that. Theres nothing really you can do to them who they were thanking for. As a courtesy they're supposed to really say thank you. And I sure would thank you if I were them. And then we thank God who is the source of all our talent and ability.
I believe and I hope you do too, that God gave you that ability to heal that patient. People are so different. Everyone is different, we cannot expect people to say thank you if you do good to them. In fact, sometimes the opposite happens. God made us all equal but in another sense we're different.

I would hope the main reason your a doctor is to help people regardless of whats in return. Otherwise you should be a podiatrist or proctologist or something to get yo uthe big money. I think most ER doctors who are in the position to save more lives are used to getting crapped on for low pay.

God should always get the Praise over man. It is great that the DR. done all he could do, but God is the healer. It was God who gave the DR. the knowledge to help.

i am not a dr so i don't know how i would feel. but i know that drs office are so busy that they don't make time to really get to know their patients. a lot of people pray for drs to have God's wisdom in making the right decisions. we do that alot with surgery. praying for God's will and wisdom. it's all about God anyway. the dr didn't mke you.God did! if the dr is deserving-give him credit but God gave them the brain which works to make decisions

I think saying "Thank God!" is more a matter of relief - and not of believing that it was actually "god" who healed you ...

If I passed an exam I also say "thank god" - even though I know I passed it because I´ve studied hard or something like that ...

(I hope you understand what I want to say ...)

Give thanks to God and the doctor as both had a hand in it. In the Catholic version of the bible is a verse that reads "Honor the physician for his skill comes from God." Odd isn't it how the protestants left that little verse out....along with others.
