You actually get paid more as an airline pilot than you would in say the air force

It ain't much, but they pay for your fuel and training. And I suppose you are talking about being in the military as there is not much need for a private company having a "fighter pilot."

As for a career, it won't last long in combat and you'll be later utilized as a flight instructor for younger pilots as they sign up.

The military life is one of service and it's associated rewards. You'll go where they need you, an not necessarily going where YOU want to. You can have your housing compensated to some degree, your food is cheaper and your insurance and benefits are some of the best.

You WON'T have the biggest house in the neighborhood and the nicest cars...unless you take your training and leave and get a job with the major airline as a "bus driver."

Even then, it's not the old way anymore and the salaries aren't handed out as quickly as before. It takes years to get to $100,000 a year, instead of just two years or so. The old salaries of $200,000 are probably gone for good.

Depends on what rank you hold, your flying pay is an additional bonus.

Look up the internet for military rates of pay and that should give you a clue.
