I really want to know what they call French Dips in France. I have asked this question before and only got joke answers. (If you don't know what a French Dip is, then don't answer). If anyone from France or who has been to France can answer me I would appreciate it. I also want to know what the words "au jus" mean in English. Thank you all.

"with its own juice"

It was not originally from France; two restaurants in Los Angeles, California, Cole's and Philippe's, both claim to have invented it.

so it will not be served

au jus is the juice(much like broth) that the meat was cooked in and is used for dipping. Most often it is served with Prime rib and Frech dip sandwiches. The name French Dip is an American title like french fries.
