What the hell kind of questions is that??? When did capital punishment... do what? Start? That is an incomplete question! Or are you looking at "capital" as the subject and "punishment" as the verb? That still makes no sense! I'm so tired of the illiterate retards on here. How the hell can anyone answer your question if it makes no sense at all? Think!! Read what you typed afterwords BEFORE submitting it. Or maybe you did... Oh man that is even more scary!

Well, the first occasion was July 6th 523BC when a small alley cat was charged with theft, after stealing a fish from the village widows window. Of course back then there was no galss so it was easy for the cat to steal the fish, where as nowadays they tend to be flummoxed by this invisible forcefield. Anyway, back to the point. The cat, of course, was a highly revered animal, almost godlike among the Egyptians, so for this to happen was an outrage. Nevertheless the cat was charged and convicted by a jury of his feline piers and subsequently stoned to death by the blind widow, who took out all the none glazed windows in the process.

After this it didn't occure for another 5732 years (do the maths) till the galactic empire of Vagwick was under attack by the hords of Testicalonians form the planet Jibblies. The man magma cannon proved too strong for the people of Vagwick and thus they were infiltrated, penetrated if you will. The events leading up to this were stange and dark. A small human like figure, deformed due to the radiation commonly found in Vagwick, was seen talking to a cloaked purple headed figure just days before the attack. On close inspection it could be seen the figure was carrying a luncheon meat truncheon, common to the offshore police of Jibblies. The man was found to be a traitor and so was sentence to death by shoeing, and was and subsequently shoed to death by the blind widow, who took out all the none glazed windows in the process.

Hope that helps.

-For iloveyankees, a little further reading...

Just reading your little note about the bible telling us to kill murderes. Dare I suggest these biblical facts...

After Cain killed Able and was banished from Eden he said to God, "But if anyone finds out I killed my brother surely they will kill me". And God replied "I have placed a mark on you so that any man who touches you will be avenged sevenfold."

Or, "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone."

Or, "Turn the other cheek"

Or the fact that no-one has the right to judge or take life but God.

Or, "Thou shalt not kill." - Thats a biggie!

I suggest you watch "The life of David Gale". Fantastic film. To quote "the death penalty is just state sponsered murder."

And I also suggest you actually read the bible and not just take what people say. You might grasp it better that way. Don't want to sound patronising but most Christians would agree with me on this one.

Capital Punishment was instituted many centuries ago to protect the innocent. ONLY premeditated crime was punishable by death.
It worked! No one who was executed ever murdered again.

Then our BLEEDING HEARTS moved in to protect that one POSSIBLE innocent man who was wrongly convicted.

Now premeditated murder, and murder of all sorts, is tolerated to the extent that if and when convicted they get a few years and only have to serve half of that sentence.

The Commandment reads ""Though Shall Not MURDER! ""-NOT though shall not kill.

I don't really understand what you're asking, but since you're asking it in "religion and spirituality", I'll share something I just learned. The bible states that if you a kill another person it is murder. But it is not a sin to kill a murderer. In fact, it states that if "you shed the blood of man, so to by man shall your blood be shed" (paraphrased). Therefore, the bible states it is our duty to put murderers to death but only if he is proven guilty by several witnesses.

if your question is when did it BEGIN, I would have to say prehistoric timesprobably with the change from hunter gather to farming lifestyle. hunter gather societies usually just run you out of the tribe. although without the support of a tribe you are likley to die
