Because when he was a child, his parents accidentally left him in a furniture store for three days, and when they found him, he had fallen in love with a lamp, which they couldn't afford (or wouldn't buy, they are SO cheap!) and he has been broken hearted ever since, chosing to life a solitary life in the dark...
