Leave aside the morality of it--How do we stop it. I understand both sides of the abortion issue. I am interested in how we stop this issue from tearing the country apart and undermining our morals. Please don't judge where i stand on the issue. It is not the point of this question. Please don't assume you know my personal beliefs. Just answer as honestly as you can.

I am about to select the best answer to this. I just wanted to let you know that it was worded to make pro-lifers think as well as pro-choice. I wanted people to look deeper and think a little.

My personal opinion is that it is wrong.

Interesting question. I'll start by saying that I am pro-choice. Although I personally would never choose to have an abortion, I think that it is up to the individual to decide whether or not they want to keep the child - not something the government should decide for us. This stems from the idea that the government should not interfere in personal decisions, not from any religious or spiritual beliefs.

That being said, I'll try to answer your question. I think the best way to stop abortion (or at least drastically reduce it) is through good, solid education. That's right, I'm talking about sex-ed and family planning. It baffles me how many people there are out there who don't understand or think about the long-term consequences (both positive and negative) of having a child, and when they end up pregnant they freak out because they're not prepared. So, let's start by getting rid of those abstinence-only programs and have an open, honest discussion about having sex and its consequences. Let's talk about birth control methods and about preventing unwanted pregnancies. Let's discuss the financial obligations of having a child - not to mention the long-term emotional comittment. I think that an open dialogue would go a long way to remove the taboo-like veil that surrounds many aspects of human sexuality, allowing us to be honest and make more informed choices when it comes to reproduction.

Edit: People are still going to have pre-marital sex whether you like it or not - even if the world were to become some kind of theocracy where such a thing was expressly forbidden, it will still happen. For many people, faith is not and will never be an answer. I'm not saying that it's wrong, but please don't discount the people out there who don't believe in God or don't have faith in some fashion - it's doing us all a huge disservice, and it won't get to the root of the issue.

Abortion cannot be stopped. The best we can do is outlaw it in the US. All this will do is mean that rich women will go to Canada or Europe for their abortions. Poor women will resort to dangerous back street abortions that could harm women and create children with serious disabilities.

If you want a real issue to consider look at the infant mortality rate in the US. In a recent study the US was ranked 32/33 in the world's industrialized nations. Among African Americans the rate was twice as bad, almost at third world levels. 5 in 1000 babies die in America partly due to the non-inclusive health care system. We are letting babies die here because we do not bother to provide a real health care system.

We are the richest country in the world, and yet we are one of only two industrialized countries that does not offer a comprehensive health care system.

So we can whine about abortion, that will never go away for the reasons I have already stated. Or we can make the changes to our society that are necessary to prevent the needless deaths of babies that are wanted and loved.

The question is either poorly written or a veiled attempt to get those who believe abortion should be legal to ignore that and discuss how to stop it instead.

I agree with your point that it is tearing apart the country. However, as the election of 2000 showed, there are many issues that have evenly split the American populace.

I wish it could be stopped. But even if out lawed there will be some idiot somewhere preforming back yard abortions with a clothes hanger. Just like marijuana its illegal but still gets grown bought and sold. The only time abortion will stop is after the day of judgment. I wish there wee a more positive answer than that but sadly its the truth

You'll never stop abortion. It's been around since the beginning of humanity.

The number could be lowered if all available contraception was available to all of childbearing age. The ''''pro life'''' sorts don't want that which means there motives are not about stopping abotions but about ensuring females are punished for having sex without outside permission.

If everyone would just mind there own business and not be concerned with what everyone else is doing, there wouldnt be a problem. Too many people feel that they should push their religious and personal belief sysytems on every one else. Their way is the "only way". It's never going to stop because those who are fanatical are relentless of their pursuit to destroy freedoms in "the name of god".

Sorry, girl. You don't "stop" abortion since some people just don't want to have a baby. Even if it's illegal, determined people will find a coathanger way. Just say to yourself that YOU won't have an abortion. Let others do what they wish without your approval. That's what's important. Not that everybody do things your way.

We can not stop abortion at this time. The world in general is going into the Great Tribulation period and they are being allowed to go against God to show their rebellion against him and his rules. Like any other murderer they will not be struck down at this time, but judged later on.
It will only truly stop during the millenium reign of Jesus. We can try to persuade people and talk to them, but really stop them. There is no way at this time.

If you don't have a stand on it then why do you wish to stop it? I think abortion is the least of your country's worries if you are talking morality.

Walking into someone else's country and killing several thousand civilians is surely a bigger problem for you to worry about.

i think its best that we educate the society on the various issues related to birth
accepting a child out of wedlock and not looking down on the couple or the mother for having one. the parents shoudl support them too. if its done its done. making it worse by abortion is not going to help.
using birth control measure to avoid pregnancy
