We keep algaecide for our swimming pool. Our duck has a small wading pool but will not swim in it when algae is present so we are constantly scrubbing it. Will a little bit of algaecide hurt her being she drinks it, and also our dogs drink out of the wading pool?

Yes, algaecide can hurt your duck if she drinks it because it will mess around with her body and put the chemicals through her bloodstream and into her stomach.

That is the problem with a pool... and having pets. I feel that any highly chlorinated water (as we have in a pool) and acid that we add to a pool is not good for a pet. I trained my dog to stay away from drinking it... I hads plenty of water in a bowl but when the dog went near the water to drink, I would scold her loudly and lead her to her bowl of water.. She did learn. I am sure, however, that ducks will /could not be trained to NOT drink the water.

If something kills algae, weeds, or bugs, it is not good for anybody. I do not believe what the companies have to say about it being pet safe either, they want to sell more product. Look at all the supposedly safe products from the past that were removed from the stores because they were eventually found to cause cancer.

Keep your critters away from the poisons.

Algiside never seems to hurt my fish in my small pond, so I figure a little wont hurt a dog or duck. Read the bottle though to be sure though

I have just been researching, and there many brands/formulas that claim to be pet safe. I'm sure that your garden supply will have the non chlorine,non-toxic varieties.
