It refers to Israel and states that Israel is safe and secure under God's protective rule. It also means to me that The United States is a blessed country, I'm sure you will agree, and as long as we stand by Israel we will remain secure under God's protective rule.
Israel was chosen for His inheritance. By Jesus' sacrifice all that believe in Him, including the Gentiles will share in His inheritance. We are all children of God and will be co-heirs with Christ on that day if we persevere and finish the race.

This is an interesting point on the topic of separation of Church and State. Is the Psalm advocating the establishment of Christianity as a state religion? No. I think that this Psalm is simply telling us that if the people in a given nation collectively accept God of their own free will, God will bless the nation as a whole. Doesn't mean that every single person has to be a devout Christian, just most of the people. And also, it is saying that the values and traditions of the collective culture should be Christian-based.
Not that I take this sort of thing seriously or anything. I'd be just as happy (or happier) to live in a Pagan society.

Every nation belongs to the Lord in the strictest sense, and you must remember when it was written. Back then the family of Jacob was a nation, the twelve tribes of Israel were considered to be nations in a sense. It suggests to me that the 'nation' or person who truly serves the Lord will be blessed. I would also like to point out this does not include Britain, America or pretty much any countries these days. There are only a few very rural places in Africa etc I know of that I can say I believe is truly a christian community, not simple christians in a community.
But, quite honestly, its one verse in a big book and mustn't be taken on it's own but put in perspective.

I think "God help America". If we continue to take God out of our government and schools and public forums we are losing the blessing we had for many years.
I don't think that that means everything we do as a nation is right or will be blessed. We need to continue to humble ourselves and repent as a nation. Especially for the innocent blood on our land, the blood of the unborn and the elderly that we should have protected.

Who have an interest in such a wonder working God, both in creation and in providence, and especially in grace: which, though it may have a principal regard to the nation of Israel, whose God he was in a very distinguishing manner, yet must not be limited to them; for he is the God of the Gentiles also: this nation is the chosen generation, the holy nation and peculiar people, both among Jews and Gentiles; and the Lord is the God of these; not only as the God of nature and providence, but as the God of all grace; who must be happy, since he is their portion and exceeding great reward; nor shall they want any good thing, nor need they fear any evil; they are on the heart of God, and cannot be separated from his love; they are engraven on the palms of his hands, and shall be helped, strengthened, and upheld with the right hand of his righteousness; all things work together for their good; and this God of theirs will be their God and guide unto death; they may expect every needful good thing now, and all glory and happiness hereafter.
Not Israel only, but the Gentiles also; not all mankind, but a peculiar people, whom the Lord has chosen out of the world to be his possession, and who are his jewels and peculiar treasure; these are happy, being the Lord's portion, and the lot of his inheritance; and he chooses an inheritance for them, adopts and begets them unto it, and makes them meet to be partakers of it.

What blessings did ancient Israel enjoy due to having Jehovah as their God?
Among these blessings was the miraculous deliverance at the Red Sea in 1513 B.C.E. (Ex. 12:1–15:21) Two months later they were blessed by entering into a covenant with Jehovah and receiving a perfect set of laws from him. (Ex. 19:1–20:18) Forty years later they experienced the blessings of entering the land flowing with milk and honey. (Deut. 6:3) Under King David’s reign they enjoyed many victories over their enemies, and under King Solomon that nation’s happiness reached its peak.—1 Ki. 4:20-25.
As long as that nation worshiped Jehovah as their God its people were a happy people.—Ps. 33:12.
Since Pentecost of 33 C.E. who have been Jehovah’s happy people and nation?
Since that Pentecost it has been spiritual Israel that has been Jehovah’s happy nation and people. On that day Jehovah poured out his holy spirit upon them, and they all began to speak in foreign tongues.—Acts 2:1-41.
These were not only anointed with God’s holy spirit to proclaim everywhere the good news of God’s kingdom but also begotten of God’s spirit to be God’s spiritual sons with the grand hope and promise of membership in God’s heavenly kingdom with Jesus Christ

Catholicism got here first. The note 'Catholic' potential 'wide-spread', 'mutually with all Christians or all of Western Church'. Catholics were the first Christians. Roman Catholic Church (in Vatican) is the first reputable Christian Church. Catholicism got here from Judaism and through ad 394 Christianity grew to develop into the reputable faith of the Roman empire. it really is after the Reformation in the course of the 16 th century that Roman Catholicism chop up and had 2 different branches - Protestantism and Orthodoxy . Roman Catholicism, Protestanism and Orthodoxy are the three significant branches or denominations of Christianity. those 3 significant branches and some 'different' Christians are mutually wide-spread as Christianity. So if you're a Catholic which potential you're a Christian. once you introduce your self it really is way less puzzling for others to understand and extra delicate for you once you assert ' i'm a Christian' or 'i'm a Christian - Catholic' than 'i'm a Catholic'.

It means that the Bible was written by God-believers for God-believers to stack the deck in their favour. Japan has, since WWII, developed itself to a great extent and has become a significant world contributor to charity and the struggle for peace. It is a positive role model for all of those who want to make this world a better place.
The Christian God is not their God (by and large). If this makes them not 'blessed', then I'm not sure how important it is to be blessed.
Sorry, Reverend. This may not be the answer that you are looking for. I wanted to answer your question differently, but that is truly what I understand from the quote you've given.

My translation reads:
Happy the Nation whose G*D is the Lord, of the people He has chosen to be His own.
A psalm of David praising G*D and his blessing for chosing Israel as his nation and his people.

Ps 33:12 Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance.
WELL IT TELLS IT LIKE IT SAYS AND THIS IS THE ANSWER TO WHO IT IS TALKING ABOUT.
Ex 31:13 Speak thou also unto the children of Israel, saying, Verily my sabbaths ye shall keep: for it is a sign between me and you throughout your generations; that ye may know that I am the LORD that doth sanctify you.
Ex 31:17 It is a sign between me and the children of Israel for ever:
