Traditionally eastern religions have not actively sought converts. The spread of christianity and islam has woken them up to the danger of being persecuted by the believers in these communist faiths. I say communist despite capitalist attitudes in the west because they are about "organising" which by default is communist in nature. There is no individualism (individual spiritual development). They say it is free will but certain rules are expected to be followed as submission to the will of god. As opposed to eastern religions where you choose your own deity to relate to and freewill with the knowledge of karma that every action does have an equal and opposite reaction. There is no sense of false security that one will go to heaven no matter what if they accept a certain name of god( as in christianity and islam). Seek freedom but you need to know yourself first to know what you want freedom from!

I think your parallel between communism and religion is interesting and fairly accurate, they do have similiar traits. Of course that description would fit many other cults as well and that's what they all are, aren't they? You don't have to be part of a small group to be in a cult.

I do like the individualism of the Eastern philosophies, at least it promotes some kind of thinking.

You've got to wonder about anyone who tells you to behave a certain way for the purpose of receiving intangible rewards after you croak. It actually seems kinda... silly.

As far as eastern traditions proselytizing you seemed to mention Hindus who at different periods have persecuted both other faiths and the bottom rungs of their own mercilessly

If the point your trying to make is that most Christians and Muslims, in general, have very little respect/actual knowledge about other religions your right. Also most everyone is an arrogant prick when it comes to religion or just doesn’t think it too important to begin with. You can see some good examples of that in previous answers to this post.

Anyways, I’m not going to go into your bit about religion promoting a “false sense of security” because you seem to think that the eastern traditions are giving people something different.

Armus

Forget religion.

Christ is the path of salvation.
Christ is the truth of God's Word.
Christ is the life eternal.

Joh 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Christ is the tree of life.

Gen 3:22 And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:

Your theory has some merit, but as any Hindu, Taoist, or Shinto believer will tell you, their societies are as repressive as any Christian or Muslim one. At least Christians do not have, as a rule, an untouchable caste.

I think we can believe anything we want as long as we accept false truths first. And false truths can be in any religion.

Not much. "communist" is the wrong word. The word you're looking for is "authoritarian".
