Well some people don't have computers, and while the majority of us enjoy the benefits of some programs that allow you to spruce up pictures, there are those that are professional photographers and only want to print out high definition, better quality pictures, at higher speeds. Also, there's fewer things or failures to endure when using a straight photo printer.
Another thing to take into account is the fact that most camera printers accept multiple types of memory sticks, and some families have more than one type of digital camera, thus it's cheaper AND EASIER to use the single printer without the computer involved. Most camera direct printers are also equipped to print in various sizes, thus taking a picture from a digital camera, and creating a 10X13 is much easier.
There are pros and cons in both sides, so it really comes down to personal preference. I have a computer printer from HP that has adapters that accept 5 different camera memory sticks, so that I can print pictures with or without the computer.
Good luck!!

The speciality photo printers are a convenience for some people, and are easier to carry around.
Both types of printers come in good and better quality. Depends what you buy.
Computer printers are more flexible in the sizes of paper they can handle.
Now that the photo labs will print 4x6 for less than 20 cents, both types of home printer are more expensive to use (counting paper and ink).
So, choose the method that is best for you!

One would hope that the quality would be better with a printer and paper made for photos.

Its a blessing when you go on vacation and want to share pictures with people who dont have a computer (thinking of not so wealthy countries). Just give them the hardcopy and take the digital version home with you.
I have some family in south america and they love it when i can give them a picture with just a laptop, camera and portable printer on me.
