I used to be a competitive swimmer (Olympic hopeful back in the day!) and I had that problem every summer especially. Because you are in chlorinate water a lot, and then the sun beats down on you, your hair hasn't got a chance. As long as you are rinsing your hair EVERY time you get out of the pool, washing your hair with the special shampoo every single day, and keeping your hair hydrated with a heavy conditioner, that's all you can really do.

If you are naturally blonde, you might want to consider dying your hair a darker shade to hide the green (MAKE SURE YOU GO TO A SALON TO HAVE THIS DONE - and explain your situation to them when you MAKE the appointment!). If you are a bleach-blonde, then you need to back off on the swimming or consider not bleaching your hair in the summer.

Either way, this is a common problem and as long as you are doing everything you can to keep your hair healthy (albeit green!), you will not be bald by the end of the summer!

P.S. I like applesauce too!

As others have pointed out, this was caused by chlorine. You will need to go to a hairdresser and have your hair stripped, which is a process for removing ALL the color. After that, it can be dyed back to your natural color.

Be aware though, that even dyed, your hair will turn green again if you continue to go swimming without a cap.

Do NOT try to do this at home. Get it wrong, and you could make your hair fall out.

wear a swim cap from now on, use a deep moisturizing conditioner, and wash ur hair with a swimming shampoo. i know u already have one. Ultraswim shampoo works really well on my hair. i swim a lot too, and my hair used to be dark brown, but the chlorine turned the ends blonde. it's not as blonde now cuz i got like 2 inches cut off last time i had a haircut and i use a swim cap now. i like applesauce 2! :)

And Captain Hero inquired, "Do you like green hair?"
Naty said, "Yes! OMG I do!!!!!"
And Captain Hero answered, "Then continue swimming in that water with those kinds of substances and chemicals. Your hair may stay green. If this shampoo helps you hair to remain green, then use. If you like applesauce, then eat it."
But Naty pondered, "Why?"
Captain Hero, with a valiant grin, replies, "Because you like it. If you think these things are excellent, then they are excellent (for you at least). Personally, I don't like green hair much on me. But if you like it, then I'll say great for you. Still, perhaps my opinion doesn't have much impact. I mean, of course, I'm so weird that I write my answers in a dialogue format."
Naty snickers, "OMG LOL!!!!!"
But Captain Hero retorts, "No! Don't think like that. This is my first time doing it like this. But the ultimate moral here is that if you like doing something, then you are entitled to do it. However, other people are entitled to opine on your doing that activity as well. And they can take actions to stop you in some way. So, let's say you like applesauce and decide to eat. If I don't like applesauce, I can stop you by destroying your applesauce stash. In the same manner, if you like green hair and you make your hair green, you should be aware that if I did not like green hair, I can do something to stop this by cutting off you hair for instance. So when you make such decisions--particularly radical ones--you can do so, but you MUST consider the consequences for doing this. You can steal from a bank, but you must consider the possibility of going to jail for that crime. By the way, I must question whether or not this topic has anything to do with a question. Anyway, I have some work to do, so I'll be on my way Naty."

okay that applesauce was random, but i like it too. when u swim in a pool the chlorine gets in your hair and 4 some reason it turns it green. that happened to me last year.

there are special oil that you can spray on your hair prior to swimming.. Once your hair is already green, there is nothing you can do, unless of course, you are fond of green hair. To prevent it though, once corrected, go to the salon and ask for a great leave in oil spray that protects your locks from chlorine penetration. Trust me, it works

Swim in a salt water pool, the green is from the clhlorine!

Redken has a new shampoo and conditoner for pool hair. It is called,..um,.. I can't remember. But your local Wal-Mart Supercenter salon has it. I can't even remember the name of it,

If your hair is bleached blonde, you may need to wear the conditioner IN the pool.
