There could be something wrong with him (I didn't mean that as horrible as it sounds!). He could have problems controlling his muscles or something. Take him to the doctor to get checked out. If there isn't anything wrong then I would cover my furniture and put him in underwear. If he has an accident, then he should sit in it until he asks to be changed (or until he has to be changed). Don't let him get a rash or anything, but he has to know that its uncomfortable and he should go in the potty. But, you have to be consistant, not harsh and mean, just consistant. Remember to ask him every hour or so if he needs to go potty. Make it a game by doing a chart or something-"If you get this many stars for going potty today, then we can do this". I wouldn't bribe him with candy or food, but it can be a small toy, a "date" with you, or something small but special like that. Make it fun and rewarding, not a punishment. He'll get over the diapers soon enough, plus, (I've heard) it takes boys longer than girls. Oh, cheerios in the potty for him to ring are great, too! Good luck!

Lots of parents go through this...here are some possibilities.

1) He may be asserting his power. Let him make the choice to be big, especially if you can, let him see bigger kids doing it.

2) some kids are afraid to poop on the potty because it hurts. Make sure his poops stay soft by using milk of magnesia 1/2 times per week.

3) tell him that you are out of diapers. Show them they are gone and he has to use the potty. If he has accidents, make him clean them up. But VERY IMPORTANT... do not berate him for accidents. Be cheery but insistent, it's his job to clean up accidents.

4) DOn't let yourself be affected by his bathroom behaviors. Assure him and yourself that all is as it should be. If he thinks he can affect you with it, he will.

5) If he is truly not wanting to go on the potty, assure him you will go with him, "just to try." If he makes a really good effort (Decided by you), you will let him go in a diaper. A few times of doing this, my daughter started going.

6) Don't be too insistent that once he goes on the potty, he has to go there every time. Let him go back occasionally, if he has at least tried on the potty.

Hope this helps.

Yeah, that is an excellent idea; give him cavities too!!!
For going Pee use Cheerios not to bribe him but to entertain him. Throw a few into the toilet so that he can try dunking them demonstrate with an empty squeeze bottle filled with water, or have daddy (TRUSTED male) demonstrate. For # 2, I have also read if you put him back wards on the toilet he can see it coming out and that fascinates them. I know it is gross but it just might work for him. I agree with the lady that recommended to take him every half hour. I think that by now if his feedings are consistent than his bowel movements will also be. You probably already know when to expect them put him on it around that time. I could go on forever BUTT if all else fails but a book for him (& YOU) on the subject. Good Luck!!

Take away the diapers and the pull-ups. Let him wear a few of his favorite outfits. After a few changes of his clothes, and having to change out of his favorites, he will begin to realize that using the bathroom will be the best way of not messing his favorite clothes up.

Some kids are very stubborn. Try giving them an incentive. Maybe some candy. Like say I give you two m&m's if you go pee. I'll give you three if you go poopy in the potty. I know someone that worked for. I hope everything goes well.

Have a "naked day". That way, he will be forced to use the toilet when he has to go... else he will create a huge mess of himself.

My grandparents have a neighbor whose young son also refused to use the toilet. I don't know what's up with that. So, you're not alone.

If you want to potty train him, offer him special candies used only for going potty. When he potties you give him a candy and ONLY when he potties in the potty

I bet by the end of this yr, he's grown out of them. Try not changing him right away after he poops, he'll get the hint.
