There is so much talk around Yahoo Answers, about the fictionality of the Bible, & anti-social elements of the Islamic texts...
My question is, should we not treat all religious books at par?
Do devout christians question the authenticity of the Quran & not of the Bible?
(Just for example) Why?
Should we not consider all religious text as the moral & social wisdom collected by the people of that time in history, & complied into a book?

All religions seek the same God.

It would be great if all religions respected each others belief systems but I'm afraid your idea is a bit too enlightened to work just yet. Problem is they all want to think God belongs to them exclusively. The idea that any real God would by definition belong to all of mankind is too much for their tiny little minds to comprehend. So they continue on in their silly dream of an exclusive God that they have some kind of a patent on.

God has always been just God. Loving and available to every person that ever existed. It never mattered to Him/Her what language they spoke or what name in that language they used to show their respect of Him with.

Sounds so God like doesn’t it. Would you really expect any less of Her?

While I don't want to start a big to-do over this, and believe that people have the right to believe what they will, (after all, even God allows free thought and choice, so who am I to frown on it?) I think your own question has touched on part of the answer you seek.

You stated "all religious text as the moral & social wisdom collected by the people of that time in history". Herein lies the key, I think. Perhaps while the Quran IS in fact exactly this, the Bible is not. The Quran (and I do not claim to even be slightly familiar with it) may be a collection of MAN's moral and social wisdom. The Bible is in fact, GOD's moral and social wisdom. Big difference.

I cannot say without a doubt that what the Quran teaches is wrong, because of my own ignorance of its text; I can only claim to know that what the Bible teaches is Truth. Do I know that the Bible is the Only Truth? Not absolutely. But I do know that as long as I follow its teachings, I will be walking in the right path.

So, yes, I guess I do question the ORIGIN of the Quran, and not the Bible.

As a christian, I believe the Holy Bible is the infallible word of God, so I don't believe that all religious books are at par. But, like,A K, I also don't believe in mocking someone about their belief/unbelief, denomination, religion, etc. I have read parts of the Qu'ran in my studies and find it interesting. America is a melting pot of many peoples and divergent ideas. I thank God for my right as an American to free speech not only on-line, but in public. I think the mockers should form their own community and mock each other and let the adults have interaction free of insults, if we don't agree. May God bless you today and have a happy fourth!

DEDESTINE, I believed when you say "should we not consider all religious text as the moral and social wisdom collected by the people of that time in history and compiled into a book." If we treats all religious books at par, that would be "Unity in diversity?" meaning to say, you can mixed "Lies with the Truth, and truth with a lies!" true indeed many people branded the bible as fictitious and other religious book by a denomination is correct. I for one asked the authencity of the bible, I have proven it right in my researches and personal life and proving others book as a copycat, mixing feebles and fairy tales. The Bible condemed adultery, (having more than one wife), but other religious denominations condone adultery by allowing 4 wives and the worse of it, is that, you can beat your wife with a tooth brush (I don't know how big is that tooth brush), how do you classify this, moral or social.

Religion is concocted by man to show his reverence for God whom he doesn't know. Before you can worshiped the unseen God, you must know his personality, this is true also in earthly matters, you have to know that person before you could say something about him. His personality counts a lot. As I have studied, the only attributes of God that is optional on his part is mercy, read this in book of Exodus where it says, "I WILL SHOW MERCY TO WHOM I WILL SHOW MERCY... ."

The scripture says in the book of Acts 4:12 "Neither is there salvation in any other: For there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be save." Brother, Religion has a name on it, and you can not be save by all sorts of religious name, only in the name of Jesus where you can find salvation. Religion was concocted to destroy christianity, a false doctrine instituted by satanic force. yet many adhere to its teaching and calling.

Every religion has its own doctrine, compare this doctrine to the doctrine of the Bible, and see for yourself the difference between the Christian faith and religious faith.

The bible has come under such close scrutiny it is impossible to imagine. On reading about it. they questioned everything and only today is it being proven true by archology findings.
These world leaders mentioned in the bible people thought never existed are being found.
The simple story told to a pastorial people of the worlds creation would logically be the necessary steps one would have to take to create the earth. Aligning the planets, provideing a sun and moon
Createing apnosphere, water, plants, fish then birds, only then could mammals survive. How did those ancient people know that?

Yes, but not the Bible. The Bible is more than just a collection of social wisdom - it is the word of God. It has stood up to test of time and 30% of it is prophecy and alot of it is fulfilled already. It testifies to the true nature of God and what he wants us to do and believe.

The Bible has been proven time and time again. Other religous books cannot say the same.

The below website has a lot of information about the inerrancy of the Bible and how it superceeds all others.

As a Muslim I will never attack Christian Jews faiths and will not try to prove that their Torah and Gospel are wrong. I am open to discuss with Christians and Jews if they want to get involved in intelligent discussion instead of posting insults and misinformation about Islam without knowledge.

We should treat these books all the same, and we should treat them the same way we do other ancient books. They should be looked at as records of the beliefs and practices of the people who wrote them, with some possible archaeological and historical value.

Other than that, they need not be revered.
