Well, as I come to think of it I cannot help but get to conclude that you already know the answer.

That brings us to yet another question: Are you really sure you want to know it?

According to the Bible, suicide is not what determines whether a person gains entrance into heaven. If an unsaved person commits suicide, he has done nothing but “expedite” his journey to hell. However, that person who committed suicide will ultimately be in hell for rejecting salvation through Christ, not because he committed suicide. What does the Bible say about a Christian who commits suicide? The Bible teaches that from the moment we truly believe in Christ, we are guaranteed eternal life (John 3:16). According to the Bible, Christians can know beyond any doubt that they possess eternal life (1 John 5:13). Nothing can separate a Christian from God’s love (Romans 8:38-39). If no “created thing” can separate a Christian from God’s love, and even a Christian who commits suicide is a “created thing,” then not even suicide can separate a Christian from God’s love. Jesus died for all of our sins, and if a true Christian, in a time of spiritual attack and weakness, commits suicide, that would still be a sin covered by the blood of Christ.

Pray for him, that is all that you can do now. Just pray for him. If he had time to pray before he died, he may have resolved with God. You never know what is someones heart. I am sorry that your Dad's friend committed suicide. It has shaken your belief a little and you need answers. Go to the minister in your church and have him pray with you. Ask him these questions. This isn't the right place to get an answer for the pain that all of you must be suffering. I am so sorry. My thoughts and prayers go with you.
It's 2 in the morning and I couldn't sleep, so I thought I would add this and take away my original message. I saw a posting today about a family who just lost their son. After all that they have been through, I can't believe that God would give them no peace in this. My heart went out to them and also to you and your Dad. I hope that you can find peace. I pray that he will be with you as you go through the grieving process. There are no answers when someone leaves us so abruptly, just anguish and questions. Lots of them. And a lot with no answers. I will keep praying for you and once again. I am so sorry.

A true "hard core" Christian wouldn't do it. Murder is a sin. Suicide is murder of one's self. As to murder being a sin that is directly covered in the Ten Commandments. You can't repent for suicide. I know some like to say well they asked for forgiveness BEFORE committing suicide. Well that doesn't work. To ask forgiveness really doesn't mean much. You have to REPENT. That means you have to ask forgiveness AND accept that what you do was wrong and show remorse. That means you KNOW it was wrong and WHY. Well if you know it is wrong and why then you wouldn't do it, so you can't repent before doing it. Sadly no matter what you did in life that pretty much gives you a one way ticket to hell. In Cor. it says that Murders, and Theives, and Liars(and others) won't see the gates of Heaven.

The answer is yes. There is only ONE sin that will prevent a person from going to heaven. That would be rejection of Jesus as God's Son and our personal Savior. Now, commiting suicide IS a sin, and one certainlly will not be rewarded for it in heaven....but if one is truly a Christain, then NOTHING can take away that salvation.

If a person commits suiside they are not a "hard core Christian." No Christian that truly beleives in God would ever kill themselves. Jesus taught that death and destruction are the work of "the thief" (Satan). He said, "The thief comes only to steal and destroy;" (John 10:10). John 8:44 says that Satan is a "murderer" and the "father of lies". The feelings of despair that lead to suicide are caused by some of his lies.

Committing suicide is an unforgivable sin. You are taking your life away, but it isn't yours to take. God gave it to you and only God should take it from you. No matter how 'hard core', this is immediate fire and brimstone time. Of course, 'hard core' Christians know this and would NEVER commit suicide.

Even though taking of a human life is considered a sin, except under some situations, like your life is in danger, taking of your own life is different - even here on earth.
For a long time I believed that taking your own life was an unforgivable thing in the eyes of God. But the more I read, and study Gods' word, one thing remains abundantly clear.
Our God is a loving, forgiving God. If one of His children has reached such a depth of despair that they take their own life, how can He not reach out in love to them and bring that broken soul to His side. His heart is broken also, to see that much pain and hurt in His child.
And, yes, even "hardcore" Christians can have unbelievable feelings of loss and pain in life. That is when we should turn to Him and place those feelings at His feet. He will take those from us - but it doesn't mean it will be easy. We are weak, and stumble, and only He knows our heart, and only He can truly forgive us of anything.

Since there seems to be some scripture reading going on for and against. Let me quote 1st. Corinthians 6: 19&20
" What? Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? 20. For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's" ( and his alone! you don't have the right to take your own life, it's not yours)

I think that they go to heaven. People commit suicide in a moment of weakness. Things become overwhelming and they do what they do not want to do. I believed that their faith will stand by them on the great day.

If they have accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as their personal Saviour, at the time that you accepted Christ His blood covered all the sins past, present, and future that they would ever committ . So I would have to say, yes they would still go to heaven.
You see salvation is not want we do but what Christ did. It was Jesus Christ that paid for our sin at Calvary and not we ourselves. When we ask Jesus Christ into our hearts, we are accepting His gift of grace to us.
Grace= unmerited favor
therefore there is nothing that we can do to earn it or keep salvation. It is Finished!!!
