I ask my friend this, But we didn't evolve from apes we share a common ancestor that is linked between humans and apes. My friend told me that some apes might have moved to a different part of the world where they needed to change to suit there surroundings. It's like is Americans came from the UK how come there are still British people? Or if humans came from sand and clay how come there is still sand and clay?

Humans did not evolve from apes, but we share a common ancestor. It's like this:
1.) Common ancestor splits into different groups due to a hardship (ie a drought, a flood... but probably a drought). Some stay in the trees to forage for food but some are forced onto the ground to begin to forage for food.
2.) Those who are forced to the ground begin to evolve over a long period of time due to adaptations. This means that certain traits are favored in reproduction (ex. those who can walk standing straight up can walk faster than those walking on all fours and survive predators and therefore can pass genes to the next generation), and these traits become evident when the species begins to change.
3.) After a long while, these ground dwellers have changed so much that they cannot mate with the speicies that stayed in the trees and are now a new species aka austraialpithocien.
4.) This series of adaptations continues on over time and you get us.

The out of africa theory is something you should look up. You could also go to National Geographics wabpage about their genome project which is tracing the migration paterns of early humans.

And to ask a stupid question back: If humans came from africa and were dark skinned originally, then why are there still dark skinned people?

OK, this is kinda hard to explain, but the statement "man evovled from apes" is slightly incorrect. The way the theory of evolution works, there are species inbetween man and apes, that we are both relatives are. Those "inbetween species" died off due to survival of the fittest and stuff like that. So the apes went in one direction and the humans in another.

Man did NOT evolve from apes. Apes and man both came from a being that existed 3 million years ago, or so. They are like really, really distant cousins, not parents.

you extremely might want to study some good books about evolution. try Richard Dawson (overlook about his anti-faith point of view). Evolution is a reality. the desirable seen is the known tree. in case you pass a options sufficient down in the course of the trunk you come to the creature from which apes, monkeys and people descended. there are one of those households of creatures in the international with an similar progression. The Crow kin has rooks, jackdaws, crows, ravens, etc. all descended from a unmarried kin. the desirable party is the Cat kin. From small to great you will discover the similarity in sort and habit, yet all descended from a unmarried ancestor. to study evolution, even shallowly as I actually have finished, is to remember on it. until eventually your recommendations is closed.

u put your question in the wrong section. u r bound to get trhe man was created not evolved crap here.

nut i think apes evolved around the same time that man evolved from a common genepool. and even if man had evolved from apes then all apes wont become man........some apes that get the circumstances ( surrounding, temp, climate) to evolve did adapt themselves and were called man........the rest who didnt have the circumstances to adapt and were quite well suited for their environment as they were would remain as it is

I believe that God created humans, we did not evolve, and I don't understand how people justify evolution. Your question is a good example of this.
