By their actions I mean all of the negative things that were done to spread Christianity.

One thing I always try to remember when looking upon history is that I wasn't there.
I don't know exactly what the feelings were.
I don't know the mindset.
I may not be getting the whole story.
Anyone can be a Monday Morning Quarterback, it takes men of vision and bravery to lead others and change History.
Was their vision good, perhaps.
Were their methods good, doubtful.
I can't judge, I wasn't there.

Many of our CHristian forefathers who were labeled Christian are not Christian including many signers of the Declaration of Independence - they were deists who acknowledged the existence of a higher being called God - but they were not necessarily CHristian over ever practiced Christian beliefs.

Theirs was a romantic ideal of the Bible as the way to truth and happiness - a wisdom book - and not the essentially saving grace of Jesus Christ.

If they were true Christians, they would have demanded NO freedom of religion and declared this country to be Chrisitan. THankfully, they never did that. In fact, two signers of the Declaration were Jewish and a few were devout atheists.

You must also be more specific with regards to your question as it is way to open-ended. For example, are you talking about the forced conversion of Indians that occurred in the frontiers of the midwest? Are you talking about the history of the Christian church in the South and their refusal to allow the Weslyans to hold revivals - which caused a huge break.... What state or region or time period are you talking about.

How do things/people grow? how do they develop and learn? EXPERIENCE (past experience to be more precise to your question) as you grow you take on your family's charecteristics.no? the things you learn like walking, and talking you learnt from your mum/dad both or just family.no? well the same was with our "forefathers" they learnt from what they were tought,so when they did all those things they thought they were doing the right thing..and u know what its like trying to argue with a person who believes somethig completely different from you ..you BOTH think u are right and no one budges.u know..
i think they would be surprised with us. because they believed they were right and you believe they were wrong.common answer here is you both believe something enough to do something about it. we are judging them asking questions like "why did they do all those things, when it wasnt right?"...why are we so sure they would not judge us and how we do things, thinking that our way is not the right way!!
"experience and knowledge is something u don't usualy get until after you need it."

the God say :
Those who believe (in the Qur-an), and those who follow the Jewish (scriptures), and the Christians and the Sabians, any who believe in Allah and the Last Day, and work righteousness, shall have their reward with their Lord; on them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve.

Our Founding Fathers were deists, but not born again Christians.

Otherwise, they would have put the name of Jesus in their documents.
