The reference for God creation of animals is in Genesis, chapter 1, verses 20 through 25. It doesn't say animals specifically, it refers to them as creatures of the seas, birds, cattle, creeping thing, and beast of the earth. God created the sea creatures and the birds in the 5th day and the rest on the 6th, right before He created man and gave him dominion over the Earth.

I think a lot of people here answered your question. I would just like to clear up a point that Picard rose, what seems like an apparent contradiction.

In the Jewish style of writing, an overall picture is given first, and then the details. In Genesis chapter 1, day 6, God created all the animals, and He spread them throughout the world. Then He created man, and He placed man in the Garden. Genesis chapter 2 says God created man, and then created one each of all the animals to bring before Adam, so Adam could name them. This was in the Garden, God created one of each animal to bring before Adam. After that, God created Eve.

There was no contradiction between chapters one and two. The Bible is the inerrant and inspire Word of God.

Genesis 2:18-22
18 Then the Lord God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him.” 19 So out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the heavens and brought them to the man to see what he would call them. And whatever the man called every living creature, that was its name. 20 The man gave names to all livestock and to the birds of the heavens and to every beast of the field. But for Adam there was not found a helper fit for him.

Read the story of Creation in Genesis, the first book of the Bible. It even says that God authorized Adam, the first man, to name them.

6.1 . Praise be to Allah , Who hath created the heavens and the earth , and hath appointed darkness and light . Yet those who disbelieve ascribe rivals unto their Lord .

2.29 . He it is Who created for you all that is in the earth . Then turned He to the heaven , and fashioned it as seven heavens . And He is Knower of all things .

24.45 . Allah hath created every animal of water . Of them is ( a kind ) that goeth upon its belly and ( a kind ) that goeth upon two legs and ( a kind ) that goeth upon four . Allah createth what He will . Lo! Allah is Able to do all things .

All of the above are from the Holy Qur'an
