To gain weight is more difficult than to lose weight. You need to eat more than what you expense, have many small meals. Consume more protein products, soy protein is healthier than animal protein. It takes time. You cannot slow down your metabolism rate.

some good answers here already!
The rule is, if you eat more calories than you use you will put on weight if you eat less you will lose weight.
This is true no matter what your metabolism. You probably already know that many people would love to borrow yours for a month or two!

I suggest you join a gym that can provide you with an excercise and diet programme so you build muscle and will look 'fuller' but still be healthy. Fat is never good but too skinny can be unattractive too. You may need supplement drinks and have to consume a huge amount of food compared to what you are eating now, but stay healthy while you do it. You probably stop eating when you feel full, something fat people dont do so it may be uncomfortable for you to eat whats on your programme but persevere - have you never seen the old Mr Universe, 'before and after' pictures?

HOWDY....A COUPLE OF THINGS YOU SHOULD KEEP IN MIND. TO , " EAT LOAD'S " IN ORDER TO GAIN WEIGH , USUALLY ENDS UP IN THE FORM OF A PROBLEM. BECOMMING OVER WEIGHT IS A DEFINITE POSSIBILITY DUE TO THE FACT THAT AS MORE IS CONSUMED IN THE SEARCH FOR ELL BEE SSS (lbs) THE MORE WILL BE CRAVED AS THE APPETITE INCREASES. HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE AND DIABETES SHOULD ALSO BE INCLUDED IN THE EQUATION OF POSSIBILITIES , ESPECIALLY IF IT IS KNOWN TO BE A FAMILY DISORDER. I WAS TOLD A LONG TIME AGO THAT , " GOD DOES NOT MAKE JUNK ". WITH THAT STATEMENT IN MIND , I'D SAY YOU SHOULD FORGET ABOUT THE METABOLISM SLOWING PROCEEDURES. YOUR PERSONAL BODIES ENERGY LEVEL IS PROBABLY JUST FINE AND SHOULDN'T BE ALTERRED. IN DUE TIME,MY FRIEND, EVERYTHING WILL WORK AS IT SHOULD AND THE WEIGHT ISSUE WILL BE FORGOTTEN. I HAVE PERSONALLY BEEN CONCERNED WITH THE EXACT ISSUE. I ACTUALLY WONDER IF A PERSON REALLY HAS A BODY SYSTEM CALLED A METABOLISM. THIS IS MY BRIEF HISTORY AND HOW IT ALL IRONED OUT FOR MY LIFE..AT AGE 13, I COULD LOOK THROUGH A KEYHOLE WITH BOTH EYES AND IT WOULD TAKE ME 5 MINUTES IN THE SHOWER BEFORE I GOT WET .A BIT SKINNY ? STANDING 5'11" AND A TOTAL WEIGHT OF 122 LBS. AT AGE 16...134 LBS AND AT AGE 21...135 LBS.I AM CURRENTLY 46 YEARS OLD AND WEIGH A MERE 145 POUNDS. I HAVE NEVER WEIGHED MORE THAN 150LBS BUT IT'S COOL. UNDERSTAND THAT MUSCLE MASS WILL NOT ONLY GIVE YOU THE DESIRED DIGITS ON THE SCALES BUT THE ADDED BULK WILL TURN A FEW HEADS AND THAT ALWAY'S HELPS THE CONFIDENCE LEVEL. . I PLAYED DRUMS IN A ROCK BAND....FOOTBALL & BASEBALL IN SCHOOL AND A HAD A PSYSICAL JOB. STAYING ACTINE WILL ABSORB THE EXTRA ENERGY AND THE EXERCISE KEEPS THE BODY FAT LOW AND THE MUSCLE MASS HIGH FOR THAT CHIZZLED LOOK. AS FOR ME, THOSE CHOICES OF ACTIVITIES GAVE ME ENOUGH WEIGHT TO REMAIN ON THE GROUND DURING A HEAVY RAIN STORM AND IT'LL PROBABLY WORK FOR YOU AS WELL. ..IF YOU TURN SIDEWAYS AND STICK OUT YOUR TOUNG ....DO YOU RESEMBLE A 'ZIPPER' ? JUST A JOKE. TAKE CARE..P.S.....I CAN STILL OUTRUN MOST PEOPLE MY AGE !

You can put on weight, but what you do not want to do is get fat.

Weight/strength train, eat well, rest well.

Get a book on weight training, or look up some fitness/strength training websites. Concentrate on basic/compound movements like bench presses, shoulder presses, squats, chin-ups, rows, etc. Forget the fancy isolation movements like preacher curls, tricep kickbacks and pec-deck flyes for now. Make sure that you use proper technique and form, move slowly through the motion and not jerk - each rep, up and down should take about 3-5 seconds. Use medium to heavy weights for medium to low reps per set. Always warm up, and after warm up always each set push to failure - the point at which your muscles give up and you cannot do anymore (with heavy weights this can be at repitition 6 - 8, medium weight between 8 - 12).

Have a plan or a routine of what you are going to achieve every time you go to the gym. I prefer to use the 4 day split where I do chest and back on Mondays and Thursdays, arms, legs and shoulders on Tuesdays and Fridays. Stick to your plan of which bodypart to target and which exercise to target them with.

Eat small, regular meals to stabilise blood sugar/glycemic levels throughout the day. Eat sufficient protein for muscle growth - the old rule of thumb is 1.5g of protein for every pound of bodyweight. Eat enough carbohydrate - carbs are a source of energy without which your body will sacrifice proteins for energy.

Also, rest. Do not underestimate the importance of rest. Without proper rest, all your hard work can be counter productive - you can end up de-motivated, and if you overwork your muscles can start to atrophy (shrink). Never do heavy sessions on the same body part for 2 days running. Remember that most if not all pulling motions use your biceps and likewise for pushing/pressing motions use your tris. Plan your routine around this fact.

Most importantly, persevere. It takes time and consistency for any worthwhile gain to be made. You will feel the fastest increase in strength and muscle tone in the first few weeks of consistent training, after which things will plateau and you will need to adjust. Increase weights, use different movements, use different techniques (supersets, drop sets, strips, 21s, etc.) to both stimulate more muscle growth and keep yourself motivated.

Good luck!

Why on earth do you want to get fat?
Well, here goes...
1. Eat lots of junk food
2. Snack a lot
3. Do no sport whatsoever, try not to move fast or walk far
4. Et cetera...
But to be honest, who wants to be overweight when you can be thin (like me)?
