I woke up this morning and my one cat Oliver was whining which he tends to do before he throws up he did this for about and hour and then threw up. there was a very small piece of string in his vomit. earlier in the morning I put out food for the boys and he didn't come and eat I picked him up and brought him to his food. he didn't eat it all. I took his temp after he threw up and it was 102.8 F. and then I just took his temp again and it was 103.3 which 103 is a fever. I was holding him and he was shaking slightly. he is just laying around not doing too much. He has a vet appointment tomorrow. is there anyone knows what I can do in the meantime. we are just monitoring him right now and I'm taking his temp about every hour if it gets too bad I'm going to call the emergency number.

Thanks!

You may want to look into taking him to an emergency vet if you are extremely worried about him. Your vet's office may be able to provide you with a number to contact an emergency vet (or it may be included in their voicemail, after hours).

Just monitor him whenever you can, and try to make him as comfortable as possible. Don't force him to eat if he doesn't want to, but make sure he is willing to drink, especially if the weather is hot today.

Hope he turns out OK!

Are you sure they are pieces of string. What may look like white pieces of string could actually be tape worms from ingesting fleas.
These worms are 1/4 to1/2 inch long, you may have also seen the worms around the cats rectum, when they dry up they resemble small pieces of rice.
If kitties is vomiting them up you can be sure that his intestines are loaded with them and they are currently causing an intestinal blockage.
Kitty wont hold down food or water because there is no place for it to go.

Next time he gets sick look closely at the small pieces of string and see if they move.

There is a medication you can get from the vets. office called DRONCIT it comes in a tablet form rule of thunb is one tablet for every ten lbs. of cats weight. it actually dissolves the worms, kitty may have a case of diarrhea for a day or two after taking the meds.

Please don't use the wormers like harts mountain or any other brand you can purchase from the grocery store, They have been known to cause major health problems from seizures to death. Wasn't the string white when first posted?

Hope this helps- Good luck

Try giving him the food with warm water, but adding it just before he eats it. That way, he'd be getting the same amount of water, but would also need to crunch his food. It would also be a good idea to add a big teaspoon of canned pumpkin puree - not pie filling, as it contains spices. Dogs love it, and it adds enough fiber and water to help things along at the back end. You can add a little extra water and make a soup for him, fi you don't see him drinking enough water. Make sure you are having your dog's anal glands expressed from time to time - that can be the cause of a lot of trouble. The pumpkin will help to keep them clear, but do have a groomer or the vet experss them periodically. You are right to be concerned about him risking an impaction - it's dangerous.

Call the emergency # NOW. If he threw up string, there is aVERY GOOD chance he has instestinal blockages from the string that remains. This will cause death. Expect surgery, I have know folks that have had to have this done - it saved the cat. Not having it done, the cat will die a very painful death.
