No the same rules do not apply.
I've seen this first hand between when I have crossed the Canadian border versus when I have crossed the Mexican border.

The Latin Americans raised their profile in this with the marches which is part of where a backlash started and people started looking at the impact on services and education from mass illegal immigration. The vast majority of our illegal immigrants are from Mexico, so there is some logic that a solution devised with Mexico in mind would be helpful.
However, illegals from everywhere are under the same rules. If they speak English, they don't have all of the same impacts on our education system, etc., though.
Our schools and such limited health care as we have are failing in areas where illegals concentrate. When it was just 2.3 million we gave amnesty without much controversy, really. At 12 to 20 million it is actually a pretty big 'pot' to stir, particularly if you live in an impacted area.
Living in Los Angeles, this has a huge impact on my children's education. It is not theoretical.

The only illegal immigrants are not mexican, however being in the United States there is an emphasis on the Mexican boarder because it is as I said, attached to the states and joined by a boarder, so there is an excess amount of people coming from mexico into the country illegally, and as the States are not as open to immigrants as some other countries they take this issue very seriously.
In Canada most of our illegal immigrants are not called that as such. They are often refugees coming from countries that they are no longer welcome in, they may live in places like cuba or china where they have been told if they return they will be killed. So when they arrive in canada illegally the first thing they do is apply for refugee status, which grants them permission to be in the country. If they are not granted a refugee they are most often deported back to their country, however Canada has a wonderful open door policy welcoming refugees because we believe everyone should be able to live a life with the rights and freedoms we are so lucky to live our lives with everyday.

Not all illegal immigrants are Mexican, but a large number are. And those of us who work for a living don't have time to sit around and stir the pot.
We don't need a new health system. We just need to find a way to pay for the one we have.

The same rules apply for almost anyone from any country. Cuba is an exception, if a Cuban reaches our shore, than they are welcomed as a refugee.
Mexicans are given all of the attention because as a whole, they are trying the hardest to get here, and the vast majority of illegal immigrants in the US are Mexican.
They're also a hot issue because they're not so good for the economy - they send the money they earn back to Mexico rather than spend it here.
The crime rate generally goes up having them around (I don't want to stereotype here, not all of them are robbers and rapists).
And they come here and do not learn the language. This makes it hard for American citizens to communicate with them. I hear all the time about people who can't get jobs because they don't speak Spanish.

They are not all mexicans. It's just most of the focus is on the mexicans because of the poor conditions in that country and the easy access to the border. There illegal immigrants from other countries as well. And yes the same rules apply to you as well.

No we have NEVER said that all the illegals are Mexican. Illegals come from all countries. ANYONE who is here illegally is breaking US law and is a criminal and MUST be deported. The only reason you hear the Mexicans brought up so much is they are the larger group of illegals and keep on insisting they have a right to break our laws and do whatever they want. They are also the ones who start in yelling this racist crap because we DEMAND to have our laws enforced and have all illegals arrested and deported.

Because the majority of Illegal immigrants in America are Mexicans, Yes the same rules apply to you, I do hate that people generalize the Mexicans because it applies to all immigrants, but when they're the majority it's hard no to talk about just them.

The same thing happens to me. When I hear "illegal immigrants," I tend to think that they are Mexicans. However, they can be anyone. The problem is that most illegals are Hispanic. There are Canadian, English, French, and other illegals. As a result, the same rules must apply to them. It is unfortunate that since they tend to "blend-in," we usually cannot identify them as illegals. We often know an illegal Hispanic when we see him or her, but the rest go unidentified.

Canadians can be illegal immigrants too. I've known a few and because of their skin/hair/eye color, they are not suspicious. The media plays on the whole Mexican thing as a way to incite hatred for them. It's a shame either way.
