my mom always told me it was bad to do that because of bactierias but is that true or what?

The pudding on the lid is in the same place as the pudding itself, so I don't think you have to worry about it. You should, however, worry about drinking from cans of soda. You don't know where those cans have been, so wash the covers before opening!

It is probably sanitary off the interior of the lid but if you are doing off one of the little cups be careful you don't slice open your tongue on the sharp edge!!!!

You might get bacteria from the edges that have seen oxygen. The pudding inside should be ok.
I always do it.

can this be just a bit more stupid of a question?
I've been doing it for years, and I've never once gotten sick, but you don't see me wasting some space on the net just to find out from some anonymous people.

nope if the pudding is okay so is the lid, it's from where it's been sealed

I've seen people do this for years. They're still alive and don't have any health issues, so I'd say its okay. At the very least it won't kill you.
