I am very thin and I am already cut up on my upper abs. You can see them, I just can't lose the thin layer below my belly button. I am very in shape. and work out twice a day. and I eat right, and drink lots of water

Modified leg lifts. Hang by your hands from a chin-up bar. Bring your legs up straight in front of you so they are at 90 degrees in relation to your torso. Hold for a three count. Repeat for as many as you can do. Keep track of the number and add two every three days. It not only works the low abdominal muscles but it works the anterior hip and quads.

Nearly all sit-ups and crunches work the abd above the belly button. The exception is ones where you sit on the edge of a bench and have a way to secure your feet (stadiums work well for this - sitting with your back to the field) lean all the way back until your head nearly touches the ground. Bring yourself up to the level, lower yourself back down in a controlled manner, repeat.

Good luck.

Running.... my abs are flat and rock hard, yet i do little/to no ab workouts. when i do I sit on the edge of a bench and do crunches with e dumbell sittin between my feet or leg raises while hanging... those are great for the "deangelos" (obliques and lower abs)

Fat is related to diet and cardio exercise.
You have to have very little fat for your abs to show.
