Why is it that so many families are falling apart just because one family member dies? My great grand mother past away a while back and then after that most of my family stopped seeing each other.

I think that is quite common. It is hard for people to deal with their grief, and to talk about it, and as they try to get on with their lives in the wake of the death of someone important to them, they do not know what to say to one another anymore that doesnt revolve around that loss, and sometimes people dont know what to do but cut all ties, so to speak. I am sorry, hopefully these people will be able to get back in touch and be family again, I think sometimes it jsut takes time.

I can kind of relate to this. We lost our grandma Dec.8,2004 and less than a month later Jan.2,2005 I lost my brother unexpectedly. At my brothers funeral, my had a stroke before services and then another after the services and we in the hospital for about a month and upon her coming home--a week later dad had one. Now all dad does is just set around crying all the time, he is still morning the death of my brother. I have moved back home to care for both of my parents. I do what I can, but dad can't deal with the fact that he lost his only son. Guess you could say it was my brother that was the glue in this family and no matter how hard I try, dad just won't try him self, which it is hard on me but I am not going to give up on dad. None of my brothers family comes over anymore either and they live next door.

I would say mothers, and grandmothers are the glue of families.
Mom is always there, doing whatever is necessary in keeping families in tact. Since the independent career oriented mom has come into vogue over the years, families arent as close knit as in the 'olden days'

She was probably the glue that held everyone together. In today's world there is not the closeness that once existed among family members and that is so sad. Everyone is so busy with their own lives thinking them so important they forget what the important things in life really are.

sometimes certain family members are the glue in your family. THis is where you step up. You can fix your family. relize that this life is so short, but you want to go through your life sticking together. AFter all, your family is your best shot in making it in this nasty ugly world. Good luck

Is is generally the women that holds the families together. Men are too lazy. If you want to have your family get together for special holidays.. why don't you be the host?

I think it's stress and fear to face their true emotions about her death.
