my male cat is neutered. in the winter he's always inside sleeping and following me around but during the summer he is out all day and all night, only coming in for food and the odd cuddle. where does he go? where does he sleep?! he pops in a few times during the day, walks past and miaws at me and then goes outside again. should I follow him?

You Can't follow a cat as it will notice you.

I Think there are number of possibilites

1) His got a small part in Cats the Musical
2) His made a few friends like Top Cat, Tom and Garfield they stay up all night playing poker to the early hours of the morning. If he comes in happy you know thats he had the best hand or should I say Paw.
3) Could be having a night on the tiles with a female feline Mrs Paws he has met.
4) Goes to Cat School and is learning Music Motzart etc

Most cats (probably 8 out of 10!) actually don't like the heat and hot weather in summer and will generally try to find somewhere safe, quiet and very shady to settle down and snooze the day away. They then become far more active at night and spend much of the night time mousing or hanging out with other cats... and, yes, shagging probably.

Think about it - if you got plenty of affection in a nice home, your food put out for you whenever you turn up for it, no job to get up for in the morning and absolutely no need for anything else in life apart from a bit of sport now and then, wouldn't you do the same?

I have a male cat aswell, he has been neutered also. He tends to be out all day, and I work all day so I have no idea where he goes. But I am intrigued also, I think he just rucks with outher cats and generally flirts with the other female cats.
When I come home of a night he comes running upto me meowing away, he is telling me all about his day, I just wish I spoke Cat to understand what he was saying!!

He is trying to train you. Do not follow him, you may be surpirsed at what you find!

No really, Cats are just checking their areas. Is that flower still there? That mole mound? The hose? When he comes in and meows, something has changed, and he's letting you know. Tell him he's a good boy, and Thank Him. He'll go out and check some more!

He probably has a girl friend he has to go see and he has to check on his spots to make sure no other cats have been there...I mean its summer the man has got things to do! Lol...Seriously though its most likely more comfortable for him in the summer and there are lots more things around to hunt like birds! I dont think you should follow him though you might be terrified of the places he takes you

Great question. I had one cat who would get fed then go to 3 other houses to be fed there too. Another used to go off for days up across the fields. Cats can have very large territories and like to scent mark them so, it's a bit like putting up a fence, however long it takes depends on the length of the perimeter. I'd love to get a tracking device to find out what they really do get up to.

He's out making sure no other males are sniffing around his patch and seeing if there are any hot lady kitty kats out there to play with. There will also be loads of things to catch in the summer e.g. butterflies, baby birds and other winged things. If he gets too tired he will maybe have a nap in the hot sun or laze under a bush if its too hot. Thats what cats do! No need to follow him lol

Even though your cat is neutered, he stills likes to get out and "cat around". Check around the hood for other cats, maybe the park or place of business that your cat could go and get attention and or treats. If you are single, attach a note to him and he may bring you home a mate!

he is catching mice, etc. he probably likes the weather better this time of year :) and probably the critters aren't as abundant during the winter months. he probably just comes by and in the house to say hey i'm ok and that he is going out again :)
i have had tons of male neutered kitties. just make sure he returns home each night :)

Hmm... you could try to follow him, but cats can get into places where humans can't go. My guess is that he's just prowling around, hunting, sleeping in sunbeams, doing cat things...

and of course, there's a high likelihood that he'll be off to the Jellicle ball, given half a chance ;)
