Or a web site that does it for you? I just started a new job and am trying to figure bills. YAY!!! :( W/ exemptions and state taxes I was trying to determine exactly what I would bring home. Thanks for any help.

depending on your filing status and how many exemptions you are claiming....if you are single w/0 you can figure about 15% for federal taxes, social security is 6.2%, medicare is 1.45%, state depends on the state you are in (Pa is 3.07%) and local depends on your locality (some don't have any others are as high as 5% most common is 1%) and now in pa many places require a occupational privelige tax that called the emsts and that is $52

The best thing for you to do is go to your personnel office and have them figure out your after tax check. That way you can plan better.

I tried for many years to do that and never could find the exact amount, but roughly 39% is what I go by.
