I don't sleep at night because I spend the whole time browsing the net till dawn breaks, and I get to bed at five o'clock in the morning and wake up at two o'clock in the afternoon. Worst of all, I don't have my breakfast, and sometimes I only take one meal during the whole day because, strangely enough, I do not feel hungry at all. Besides, I am a neurotic perfectionist and compulsive procrastinator. I have been writing my thesis since 2005 and I have not finished yet. I feel as if I were abandoned by everyone, and a nagging pain of solitude keeps pressing hard against my soul. I really am helpless, lost, depressed, sad.

Boy, you sound just like me before I began treatment. I am living with bipolar disorder. I use to have a very hard time going to sleep and staying asleep. I'd eat once a day and sometimes skip two or three days all together. Procrastination, perfectionism and compulsiveness were all part of my mood induced behavior. I would get very angry easily and suddenly. Later I was left wondering what it was that made me so angry and feeling guilty about it. Depression, sadness and a lost, useless feeling were constants in my mind. I found myself living in solitude and not hopeful of anything better. But there is something better with proper treatment. See your doctor and tell him/her just what you have told us here. It may not be bipolar, but you do need help to work through this problem. Asking for help is the second step to recovery. You have already made the first and most difficult step by recognizing that you have a problem and accepting it.

There are two links below that may help you if you think you are bipolar. Check them out if you like.

I hope this helps you. If you would like to ask me more or just feel the need to express your self to someone that understands, please feel free to send me an email. tls3123283@yahoo.com

Sincerely,
Terry

Reading your question it seems you have all the answers right before you. I think you know what to do and that is, don't think, just get up, go outside and take a break from your thesis and your computer. If you think too much about peeling yourself away from your routine the compulsive procrastination side of you will surface. Still get up at two in the afternoon, so as to not shock yourself completely, and do something different. You felt as though you were abandoned by everyone but you have confined yourself to your home and computer. So step outside and be free from the solitude that presses hard against your soul. :)

Well, I remember working on my theses, and it was a real pain. But, you must finish it! Stay off the internet, unless it is realted to your studies. I know people who let the internet consume them. I am only here for interest. Don't make it your life! You do sound depressed, but alot of people go thru that. You must complete a taks to the end. Read this from me, then turn off the computer and get outside. Go see you dr. Your sleep patterns would make ANYONE not feel good. Take vitamins too. Good luck.

U hv just got addicted to NET. I was once an addict, i browse from the office, it happens that once am connected, all my office work will be left unattended to. But I have controlled it by not connecting the server, until i finish off all the work on my table, unless i want use it officially and log off immediately after. For urs, put the computer away from your bedroom, and always put off the server. better still, cut of your subscription with ur ISP. and go with it for sometimes, afterwhich you would have got use to staying without NET, the resubscribe and turn off servers sometimes. U are humanbeing, dont allow NET to control u and not u.

Sounds to me that you are someone that suffers from a compulsive disorder. And on top of that since you are apparently suffering from it and don't know how to deal with it and neither does the people around you - you have also developed as you admitted as depress. Either that or you are on a manic high-refering to the Bi polar disorder. Either way there is medication that can help either. Just go to the doctor and talk to him/her. You are not crazy and since I have been diagnosed with depression my medication is working out just fine and I am my old self again. Wish you luck.

well, about the sleep thing...
you have to cycle back to normal..

so i'd suggest staying up and not going to bed until 10pm

you'll wake up sometime around normal people...

next night go to bed at 11pm
then the next night 12...

waking up at 8 or nine is not too early...

this might also solve your solitude thing because more people are awake during the day than at 4am.

good luck!

I have a suggestion that you had better listen to. I am not trying to sound mean but you are very lazy and you friends think you are pathetic. I would shut the computer off and get a life. I am serious.

This may sound really simplistic, but it sounds like you have hyperinsulinemia, possibly manifesting as low blood sugar (the helplessness, lost, depressed, sad feelings).

You may want to search Yahoo!Answers for this topic, as it is asked regularly, and has gotten some great answers.

For basic information on hypoglycemia, check out www.hufa.org. For basic information on hyperinsulinemia, check out www.mayoclinic.com/health/hyperinsulinemia/HQ00896

Best wishes.

Turn off your television and your computer. You are addicted.

Edit: Turn off your internet, not your computer. You'll need that to write your thesis. :)
