He may be in jail and the family is ashamed to tell anyone. He may also be locked up in a mental institution or something like that. (More off the wall: the family could have killed him and covered it up. This is not as uncommon as it may seem--in the USA at least where there are no official population registries like in many European countries.)

advertise in the papers, television, internet and radio. It will be sure to help. Go to your nephews mothers hometown and ask around there too or where ever she last stayed at. But its best you go to the cops first and see if they can help in any way possible.Readers Digest is also a very good way.

There are several free services, you just need the right contacts, and you really shouldnt have to pay anyway. I mean if you can do the research, why pay? Even better, email me the info you have and I can see what I can do. It comes easy to me to be able to find people for others, I dont know why, but its worth a shot.
