I will never forget those July 4th cookouts as a kid. The taste still reminisce in my mind. I just cant get that taste anymore.

It could also be familiarity of eating certain foods all the time.
For example, I used to eat hamburgers all the time as a teenager. As an adult, I rarely eat them now, and find that I really enjoy a good hamburger on the grill.
If you limit what you eat to an occasional event, you'll appreciate the food better.
Secondly, it depends on how food is prepared. If it's not prepared well, the flavor in it won't stand out.
(Compare a McDonald's hamburger to one you've cooked grilling out, for example.)

As we get older our taste buds change. Foods that tasted great when we were kids just don't seem to taste the same.

well...uhmm..you're new to life then..lol..it's just like havin a new gadget..you always bring it with you when it's new but eventually you get bored with it and find something new..i mean...in food prolly...you think it's just food because you've tasted as if everything under the sun...lol...try goin to Philippines or other Asian countries and try some exotic foods...for a change...lol
