We've applied for a K1 visa, but we've now decided to get married in Norway (where we both reside). As we go through the immigration process, we're wondering if the K1 will cause problems and if we should cancel it. We would like to keep it going at least until we're married (then definitely cancel).

You won't have to cancel it. People change their minds about where they'll get married all the time; international marriages are notorious for changing venues at the last moment. No one will mind if you simply never use the K1. It will be filed, then a year or more later, if you haven't used it, the embassy's via unit will either returned to NVC or shredded.

If you really do marry in Norway, you might call or stop by the embassy and tell them you won't be using the K1, save them from making a phone call or sending a series of letters. They're the same people who will process your IR1; you might as well meet them early.

Cancel it. Short and sweet.
