Does anyone fish below dams or locks or heavy current I had a close call below a medium sized dam I started getting pulled into the discharge by an eddy luckily I was able to get the motor started just in time and get out.

First of all, Always keep your motor running, I use 2 anchors , 1 in front and 1 in back, and always, always keep a sharp knife handy just in case you have to cut yourself loose. It,s better to lose an anchor than your life.

you need to call the recorded number to the dam before you go and they always tell the time that the water will be turned on because of the heavy currents, and also dont go so far out if you are fishing near the dam

If your fishing below dams make sure you have a lot of boating experience and stay away while large volumes of water are being discharged.

It is a fact that a great many fishermen drown each year whilst wading in rivers. If you do, you must wear some form of floatation jacket
