Young boys falls in love easily and can easily be hurt. They are very vulnerable and open at a young age. (Girls mature quicker)
I believe that when a man falls in love he falls hard and when he get hurt he vows to never get in that position again. He can easily distance himself when needed, which is his protection. So to keep himself SAFE he avoids commitment or leaves before he develops feelings for the woman. This is from my personal opinion, and observation as i have 6 brothers.

I am more afraid of BREAKING the commitment than making it. If I commit to a relationship with a woman today and then 3 months later I decide that I want to go into the peace corps and live in china for 3 years, she will be hurt. And I definately do not want to hurt women.
Secondly I can't always have the woman that I REALLY want. It would be wrong for me to establish a commitment with a woman that I can have only to dump her when the one that I really want comes along.
Third, I would really enjoy having the best of both worlds where I would be able to have my girlfrend when I want her and then I can go hang out with my friends without having to be concerned about thinking about her. If I make a commitment to her, then I no longer have complete control over the situation.

because it makes them feel old? I'm not to sure.. each man has there own reason. strange i know. between the ages of 20-30 is supposed to be the "party time" when they settle down the party dies. women mature at a younger age therefor making them want a commitment at a younger age as men mature at a later date.. making them commit later.

Please don't think to limit that age....I know a 51 year old man who feels exactly the same way! Where women embrace love and commitment with one special man in their life, men have a way of avoiding it at all costs....not really realizing that a commitment to the one woman they love would be the be-all and end-all to a lifetime of happiness!

Some are, some aren`t.
One reason may be that there isn`t the biological imperative that the female faces. A male can window shop alot longer. A female has a shorter time, unfair, but that`s life. This is why you often see older males with younger females. Their goals are better in alignment.

they think they are going to have loads of sex with loads of different women.
they hit 30 and have only had sex with 5 girls and all one night stands. Then they realise that they could have had lots more sex if theyd been with one woman at a time.
its a numbers thing
