I am wondering if anyone who has been on this forum since it started has found their feelings swayed against what they first felt about illegal immigration, or has everyone clung to their former beliefs with no change, despite reading the postings here and possibly learning new information on this issue?

I've watched to see a few responses here before adding any details. However, I will say that I have been anti-illegal immigrant since day #1 on this forum and my stance has only been firmed up in the past about 3 months. I want ALL illegal immigrants to be deported, no exceptions and regardless of how long they have been in the USA, and I want the borders to be secured "leak proof," and I want employers of illegal immigrants to be severely penalized 100%, and I want the anchor baby law to be revoked immediately. I want anyone in authority to have the right to ask for ID and proof of residence and all drivers without license/insurance to be prosecuted and deported immediately if they are illegal immigrants. I want schools to NOT allow illegal immigrant children to attend in our schools and they and their families to be deported when they try to register. Illegals who attend hospitals - deport after giving emergency care only. No leniency and no exceptions. I am more firm than ever.

I read some about the issue before I started participating in Answers, and some of the views that others have shared have helped clarify and edify my feelings on the issue. I think the United States and Mexico need to have a clear, documented, iron-clad treaty on migration and work etc., and that that treaty needs to mirror standards to be upheld with the rest of the international community, no double standards, as it were, no favoritism, and further I believe that Mexico needs to work about 10 times harder on their domestic problems so they don't just bleed over into the United States. I also believe that building the border fence is a good preventative measure, but is about 10 years too late, I think it'll have an impact over time, but it really should have happened about 10 years ago when it started really becoming apparent that Mexico had Big Problems.

The reason that you don't give money to bums is because most of them are drunks or on some other drugs. By giving them money, you're enabling them. Well, Mexico's 'drunk' on american money, and the more we give em, the more of this we have to look forward to.

I really don't know if this administration really has it 'to go' to deal with Mexico, luckily some of the individual states do, and they're being pro-active in taking steps to reduce and curb completely the illegal influx of people from Mexico into the United States.
The full measure there will be confronting employers of illegals, revoking their business licenses, fining individuals that employ illegals, the list goes on, and it'll take time, but the long and short of it is that even if Mexico doesn't 'get it' on illegal immigration, americans do, and since this is OUR country we're talking about, we don't have to ask 'ay con permiso' to have our laws enforced.
Mexico can stay in Mexico, fix mexican problems, america can stay in America, fix american problems, and we'll get along famously...

I've been here a while and I see myself going more and more towards the right. That is having illegals deported. How? One at a time for however long it takes.

Many of the postings from pro-illegals stress that illegals have the "right" to be here and that being poor "justifies" them being able to break our laws and that anyone against them must be a "racist" and don't blame them it's all the "employers" fault.

They take no responsibility for their actions, they don't admit to using any social services and they claim that they all pay taxes. The lack of reason, logic and the total arrogance and disrespect for this nation by the pro-immigrant postings has done nothing but strengthen my position against them.

I havent been here since day 1, but the length of time I have been here has convinced me that this forum is the toughest one on Yahoo answers.
You need to have your facts, not just propaganda.
Your opinions will be viciously attacked, no matter which position is yours. You will be subject to ridicule and slander, reported multiple times for your stand. publicly called out, and basically treated like crap by the opposition, no matter which side is yours.
I do not know of any of the "diehards" who have changed their position, I know of a few who have made adjustments in order to survive in here. The attrition rate is high, most come in , post a few questions, and once they read the answers and opinions, just decide not to return. My feelers have been hurt a time or two, sure. I still dont have any use for criminal trespassers or their criminal supporters, and until they can convince me, that what they do or support is right, my stand remains the same. If you are an "Illegal immigrant"
LEAVE MY COUNTRY!

I have become more adamant about illegal immigration. I have learned plenty about how our own government has betrayed us by turning a blind eye and allowing so many to come here, bringing in their criminals, diseases and abuses. I was not aware of the magnitude of the problem until I started asking questions and following the websites offered. My eyes were opened, WIDE!! I have been called every filthy name in the book and I have retaliated back in the same way when it was uncalled for. It only makes me more determined to do all "I" can to get these people out of our country and try to get our economy back in the 'black' instead of so deep into the 'red'. When I was called a racist for wanting our laws enforced it only riled me more and made me want them outta here even MORE!! I'm even more strongly AGAINST illegal immigration now!! They should be deported!! No amnesty!! They have told us without mincing words what they think of Americans of the USA so they don't need to be here with Americans in the USA!! They need to go back to 'wherever' and take their litters of kids with them and all their extended family who came here, too, ASAP! If you're illegal and you're still here, you are LATE!!

Okay....your sitting in your living room watching spongbob with fake blow up muscles and there is a knock at your door. there is this family of immigrants who are illegally here and your residence has become their home. They come in and change the channel, eat your food, and tag along with you to work. The immigrant sees what you do and goes to your boss and says" I can do that and I can do it better and cheaper. So the immigrant proves himself to your boss and you get laid off. Now you don't have a job and unemployment isn't cutting it. But, the immigrant can help you, because he has a job....your job. I know this will probably get someones hair in a tissy, but I wouldn't go to another country, not even try to learn the language, and steal someones bread and butter. America is the land of the free, but let's not be taken advantage of here. Enough is enough. Make it in your own yard and don't make it in mine. USA! Is that really unreasonable?

My viewpoint has not changed since I took serious time, effort and research to arrive at it. Nothing that has come across this forum has added to or detracted from it substantially.
I am however becoming disenchanted with people who throw out opinions based on emotions, racism, or private agenda, (from the Left or Right) and become offended when they are not taken at face value.
One earns a right to an opinion by basing it on as much fact and reality as possible, and then offering it up for critical discussion. (Not the same as criticism). In other words, What I THINK, is not equal to what you FEEL.
I have found it a source of enlightenment, in terms of factual statistics at times, and a sign of how many people with such strong opinions can have such a weak ability to back up their claims.

I have become educated, have become calmed down on some aspects, and alarmed by greater information on others.

I am against illegal immigration. I think I have a better idea of what the problems are and what sort of solutions might help alleviate those problems, though.

Once again for the millionth time immigration is fine. Come to America. Have a good time. Live here. Work here. Pay taxes. Raise Children. Enjoy all there is to offer. But do it LEGALLY. If you have to sneak in and look over your shoulder for immigration then GET OUT. Try again legally. I will welcome you with open arms. Thats all. Is that so hard?

i am also anti-illegal immigration, however, i do feel that not all illegal aliens are bad for the economy. there are people in the healthcare industry who are probably illegal aliens but take care of our old, young and sick people. it's the illegals who are arrogant and demanding rights, and wave their flags, and refuse to learn english only spanish, and illegals who commit crimes like murder, stealing, vandalizing, rape and other gang related crimes that should be deported asap. to answer your question, YES.

No my feelings haven't changed.....I still want amnesty.

I do have a bit more compassion for certain individuals who post regularly with ALOT of angst (their lives are obviously being effected by "illegal immigration" more so than mine).

I have learned ALOT......I read EVERY link (whether it hurts me or helps me).
