One of the main difference between man and animal is that man can (normally) control their sex "urges."
It's not true that all people think about sex at all times. (Some do.)
Life is burdensome and most of us spend the majority of our lives abstaining from "pleasures" anyway (sexual or otherwise.)
The purpose of life is not to "be happy and seek pleasure", but to do what is right in the eyes of God.
Those folks you mention, for the most part, are just better in tune with reality than are the rest of us.

You are right - some of them don't abstain. The reason for this I believe is that being a nun or priest or monk where celibacy is required is a calling. A lot of people go into these ministries and they're are not called to do so. We are all called to be witnesses for Jesus in whatever profession we're in, we do not need to be pastors, priests or nuns to do so. However, Paul does say that not being married is good because then you can dedicate yourself entirely to God without the responsibilities that comes with being married. He makes it clear though that if you cannot take this type of life (being celibate) you should rather marry. People who go into these ministries should make 100% sure that is where they should be otherwise they will not only bring God into disrepute (as we see so often) they will also be incredibly unhappy. Please remember that there are many many many wonderfully dedicated priest, nuns and monks out there. Please don't judge all of them on the misbehaviour of the minority. As to your question about masturbation. The Bible does not directly deal with this question so there are many opinions. Those priests, nuns and monks that want to stay completely celibate relieve there tension in other ways such as execise and meditation. In actual fact, it is quit easy to be happy without having sex. Sex is only a teeny teeny part of life.

I really don't have an answer, but it hasn't made sense to me. Maybe that is why most of the nuns I've met look mean. Not all but most. And you are correct, they do get involved with homosexual activity and to them that is wrong. If they masturbate isn't that a cardinal sin? If it is...I'm going to hell. Because if I dont' have a man in my life I can't stand not feeling pleasure, maybe that is why I feel so guilty when I do. I dunno. I hope you get the proper answer for this. But I guess if they never do....they don't know what they are missing and that is why the priests have turned to choir boys. And you can't tell me nuns don't (NOT ALL OK) don't have lesbian trysts with each other. I just can't see not having any sexual contact at all. I'm really looking forward to the rest of your answers.

Human sexuality is not a necessity no matter how you look at it. These people are called by God to walk this road in life and He gives them the grace to live a life against nature. They put all their passion into their faith and prayer and serving Christ and the Church. Masturbation is a private issue. That is between them and God just as your failings are private so too are theirs. Why do we feel the need to discuss that which isn't meant to be public topic?
Peace of Christ,

I believe a lot of them go into the church when they are very young. They are often called to do so. However I can only imagine how hard it must be down the line. When I was young our priest had very nice looking maids to maintain his house. My atheist father had plenty to say about that when I was trying so hard to just picture these perfect sisters and priest. I think my father knew best

Don't think to long on that issue. Someone that no one remembers came up with that idea. I don't believe God had anything to do with those guidelines. If so, I wonder why did God make Eve for Adam!
